Undefeated Capitol Heights, MD featherweight Gary Russell, Jr. travels to Laredo, TX for a four-round contest against Mexican featherweight Noe Lopez, Jr. on Friday, October 23.

Russell (4-0, two KO’s) is coming off a first-round TKO over Jason Jones on August 17 in Primm, NV. Lopez (4-3, three KO’session) won his leading four bouts but has now lost three rectilinear to the likes of Charles Huerta, Dat Nguyen and Abraham Lopez who had a combined won-loss record of 33-1.

The linked article talks about which leg of the defense/running animals of the chase/game manager tripod is letting San Francisco down. It explains why Shaun Hill has been effective despite a negative DVOA, but it doesn’t go into one weakness of his heroic: a reliance on checkdowns that is inflating his traditive statistics but hurting his DVOA.

In DVOA, plays are considered successful if they pick up 40 percent of the needed yardage on first down, 60 percent on second from the top to the bottom of, and 100 percent on third part or fourth down. Hill has completed 30 passes that have failed to pick up meaningful yardage. That’s tied for second in the league. Number some shouldn’t be a surprise. Hey there, Trent Edwards.

For those of you who didn’t see it on Sunday, Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt smacked himself in the head three or four times with his helmet while running out onto the field.
