World Cup winner Romario has been arrested in Brazil as a child livelihood case involving his first wife turns ugly.
Police spokesman Analder Lopes said Romario was taken into care for allegedly failing to make child support payments to Monica Santoro, who has custody of the couple’s children, Romarinho and Moniquinha.
Lopes said he did not be aware of how much Romario owed his ex-wife and added that the player’s lawyers promised to present documents proving he had made the payments. He did not provide to a greater distance information.

Tour de France contenders Saxo Bank have suffered a huge blow with captain Kurt-Asle Arvesen forced to withdraw from the offspring with a broken collarbone.
The 34-year-old Norwegian champion, who won the 11th stage on last year’s Tour, fell in a heavy shatter during the 10th stage when he tried to avoid a spectator who had fallen into the road.
Saxo Bank spokesman Bryan Nygaard confirmed; "He’sitting out of the race. We’ve just returned from hospital where scans confirmed the suspected fracture. It’session fractured in two places.”
