World Cup winner Romario has been arrested in Brazil as a child livelihood case involving his first wife turns ugly.

Police spokesman Analder Lopes said Romario was taken into care for allegedly failing to make child support payments to Monica Santoro, who has custody of the couple’s children, Romarinho and Moniquinha.

Lopes said he did not be aware of how much Romario owed his ex-wife and added that the player’s lawyers promised to present documents proving he had made the payments. He did not provide to a greater distance information.

Tour de France contenders Saxo Bank have suffered a huge blow with captain Kurt-Asle Arvesen forced to withdraw from the offspring with a broken collarbone.
