World number two Roger Federer will try to party a fresh landmark for men’s tennis when he takes on American Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon final on Sunday.
The 27-year-old Swiss hopes to gain the victory a sixth Wimbledon title and so break Pete Sampras’s all-time Grand Slam mark by a history 15th major triumph.
Roddick, 26, ended British hopes with his semi-final win over Andy Murray and hopes to add to his 2003 US Open title.

Fabian Cancellara powered to victory in the opening time trouble of the Tour de France as seven-time promoter Lance Armstrong made his return to the race.
Armstrong’s time of 20 minutes 12 seconds for the 15.5-km give chase to around Monaco was 40 seconds behind the Swiss as he finished in 10th site.
Briton Bradley Wiggins was third, a second behind Alberto Contador, who finished 18 seconds behind Cancellara.

Serena Williams won her 11th singles Grand Slam title, and her second of the season, by beating five-time Wimbledon champion and twice defending champion Venus Williams 7-6(3) 6-2.
The first set went with serve, and was unequivocal in a tiebreak. In the second set, next to the first seed Serena broke third seed Venus in the sixth game to lead 4-2, and then won Venus' next service valorous as well to clinch the grass-court Grand Slam title on her fourth match point. Prior to this ultimate, Venus Williams had won 34 sets in a affray at Wimbledon.

Serena Williams turned the tables on sister Venus to win her third Wimbledon title with a 7-6 (7/3) 6-2 victory on Centre Court.
The pair also met in endure year’s last, when Venus won her fifth title and second in a row.
But Serena had come completely on top in their two previous meetings in the SW19 showpiece in 2002 and 2003 and so that proved the outcome again today.

Sri Lanka were reduced to 292 all out by Pakistan on the first day of their first Test but hit back by reducing the visitors to 15-2 by the close of play.
Pakistan’s pace debutants Mohammad Aamer (3-74) and Abdur Rauf (2-59) had given their side the upper hand.
Sri Lanka had been 21-2 however Tharanga Paranavitana (72) highest place scored to give them more of a total to defend.

If you could see Kaija Saariaho’s undulating and profoundly sensuous music it would look moderately much like Daniele Finzi Pasca’sitting staging of her first opera L’Amour de loin (Love from afar).
This whole show is designed to waft us into submission, its washes of constantly evolving orchestral texture reflected on platform in Cirque du Soleil like dreamscapes of flying acrobatics and billowing silks. Beautiful but precious – which is ultimately the opera’s problem, too. This is a piece which rejoices in the old adage that it is better to journey than to arrive. Its fulfilment is as nothing compared to its promise.
