WHL: Spokane end slide, beat Tri-City

David Rutherford scored a pair of goals and Spokane ended a four-game slide Saturday with a 3-1 Western Hockey League win over the Tri-City Americans.

Tri-Cities (44-13-1-2), which had its nine-game win streak ended, got a power-play goal by Adam Hughesman and 23 saves from Chet Pickard.

In other WHL action Saturday, it was: Medicine Hat 4 Brandon 1; Prince Albert 7 Swift Current 3; Calgary 4 Saskatoon 3 (SO); Kootenay 8 Red Deer 4; Lethbridge 5 Regina 2; Vancouver 3 Kamloops 2; Edmonton 3 Kelowna 2 (SO); Prince George 5 Chilliwack 4; and Everett 8 Seattle 4.

At Kennewick, Wash., Justin MCrae also scored for the Chiefs (40-13-1-5), who got 22 saves from Dustin Tokarski and two assists from Ondrej Roman.

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Bretton Cameron had a goal and an assist as the Tigers (34-19-5-2) beat Brandon (34-21-2-2) to move into sole possession of fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

At Prince Albert, Sask., Justin Bernhardt scored three goals and added two assists, and the Raiders (21-34-3-2) rode a five-goal third period to a win over Swift Current (34-22-0-5).

Hitmen 4 Blades 3 (OT)

At Calgary, defenceman Michael Stone scored in the sixth round of the shootout to lead the Hitmen (42-16-1-3) past Saskatoon (21-32-3-4).

Ice 8 Rebels 4

At Red Deer, Alta., Dustin Sylvester scored twice and Kootenay (34-20-4-2) rode a five-goal second period to a win over the Rebels (16-38-4-2), who have dropped four in a row.

Hurricanes 5 Pats 2

At Lethbridge, Alta., Juha Metsola stopped 27 shots and the Hurricanes (38-16-2-3) used four first-period goals to cruise past Regina (36-19-3-2) for their third straight win.

Giants 3 Blazers 2

At Kamloops, B.C., James Henry scored twice and Vancouver (29-13-2-5) fired 49 shots on goal in a win over the Blazers (26-30-2-2).

Oil Kings 3 Rockets 2 (SO)

At Kelowna, B.C., Tyson Barrie scored the game-winning goal in the shootout for the Rockets (33-18-2-6) to defeat the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings (19-29-4-7).

Cougars 5 Bruins 4

At Chilliwack, B.C., captain Greg Gardner paced his club, notching one goal and two assists as Prince George (15-40-1-3) beat the Bruins (25-25-3-4).

Silvertips 8 Thunderbirds 4

At Everett, Wash., Zach Hamill had a five-point night, leading the Silvertips  (33-25-0-2) over Seattle (31-19-5-2).
