WESTERN Bulldogs held off a late Kangaroos rally to win their round-one AFL NAB Cup match by 11 points at TIO Stadium in Darwin

Bulldogs defender Lindsay Gilbee kicked a supergoal with less than three minutes to play to seal the game for his team, 1.6.9 (54) to 1.4.10 (43).

The Bulldogs will play the winner of the Brisbane Lions-Essendon match on the Gold Coast at Telstra Dome next weekend.

WD for David Duval at Riviera

I was scanning the first-round scores at the Northern Trust Open (L.A. Open) at Riviera Country Club when I spotted David Duval at the bottom of the list with a WD alongside his name.

Duval started on the back nine and shot a 41 with four bogeys and a double. After bogeying his first two holes on the front, David apparently had had enough.

Almagro, Volandri in Brasil Open QFs

Costa do Sauipe, Brazil (Sports Network) – Second-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro and fifth-seeded Italian Filippo Volandri were a pair of easy second- round winners Thursday at the clay-court Brasil Open.

Almagro erased Serbian Boris Pashanski 6-2, 6-3, while Volandri vaulted past Argentine Guillermo Coria 6-1, 6-2 at Costa do Sauipe-Salvador. Almagro and Volandri will square off in Friday’s quarterfinals here.
