Costa do Sauipe, Brazil (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Spaniard Carlos Moya and countryman Albert Montanes both moved on in the first round at the clay-court Brasil Open.

Moya bounced back from a second-set loss to down compatriot Santiago Ventura 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at Costa do Sauipe-Salvador.

Montanes, the eighth seed, handled Frenchman Nicolas Devilder 6-4, 6-4.

In other opening-round action, Serbian Boris Pashanski got past Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-4, 6-4, Italian Fabio Fognini foiled Czech Jiri Vanek 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3) and Ecuador’s Nicholas Lapentti downed Brazilian Thomaz Belluci 6-2, 6-2.

This week’s winner will collect $77,300. Argentine Guillermo Canas defeated Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in last year’s final, but neither player entered this year’s draw.
