SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes and William Dion of Quebec are heading to the final after finishing atop their field at the Canadian junior curling championship on Friday.
Dion finished at 10-2 after winning 9-4 over Yukon in Draw 18, while Lawes also finished 10-2 despite an 8-5 loss to Alberta.
On the men’s side, Saskatchewan’s Brennen Jones, Brett Gallant of P.E.I. and Ontario’s Travis Fanset finished tied for second with 9-3 records after Gallant edged B.C. 7-6 and Jones topped Newfoundland and Labrador 5-2. Thomas Scoffin and Yukon upset Ontario 8-5 in Draw 17.
Alberta and Northern Ontario are tied at fourth with 7-5 records following Alberta’s 7-5 victory over Manitoba.

In Draw 17 action, Saskatchewan won 10-3 win over the Northwest Territories, while Newfoundland defeated New Brunswick 9-6 and Northern Ontario got past Manitoba 8-5.
On the women’s side, Danielle Parsons’ Nova Scotia rink (9-3) is alone in second place, advancing to the semifinal despite her 7-6 loss to Ashley Miharija’s Northern Ontario rink in Draw 18.
Northern Ontario will enter the playoffs in a three-way tie for third at 8-4 along with Alberta and Saskatchewan’s Stephanie McVicar, who edged Newfoundland and Labrador 6-5.
In other Draw 18 action, P.E.I. downed B.C. 10-8.
In Draw 17 results, it was: Lawes 10-8 over Northern Ontario, Saskatchewan routed the Northwest Territories 14-4, Newfoundland squeaked past New Brunswick 9-8 and Ontario kept Yukon winless with a 9-3 decision.
Earlier in Draw 16 results, Danielle Parsons and her Nova Scotia rink blasted the Northwest Territories 8-2, while Alberta defeated Quebec 6-4, P.E.I. handled New Brunswick 8-3 and Ontario recorded a 7-4 win over B.C.
