FULLERTON, Calif. – Traci Dickenson’s solo home run in the fourth inning was the game winner as the No. 5 Oklahoma softball team edged Nevada, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.
Junior pitcher D.J. Mathis improved to 2-0 this season with the shutout while the Sooners moved to 2-1 and Nevada fell to 1-2.

Canadian Juniors
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes and William Dion of Quebec are heading to the final after finishing atop their field at the Canadian junior curling championship on Friday.
Dion finished at 10-2 after winning 9-4 over Yukon in Draw 18, while Lawes also finished 10-2 despite an 8-5 loss to Alberta.

James Blake
Vienna, Austria (Sports Network) – Andy Roddick and James Blake combined to give the defending champion United States a commanding 2-0 lead against host Austria in a best-of-five 2008 Davis Cup opening-round matchup.
Roddick survived his opening singles rubber by outlasting Austrian lefthander Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 in 4 hours, 6 minutes on a red clay surface at Ferry Dusika Hallenstadion. Blake then doubled the Americans’ margin by overcoming pesky Austrian southpaw Stefan Koubek 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.

The 33-year-old Queenslander leapt into contention to successfully defend her title, advancing from equal 12th position Friday to a three-way tie for first after round two at Royal Pines.
Mentally flat after her come-from-behind win at the Australian Open in Melbourne last week, Webb said it was an effort staying focused.

LOS ANGELES – The No. 5 Oklahoma softball team (1-1) connected on 11 hits and recorded 12 runs while junior pitcher D.J. Mathis only surrendered two hits as the Sooners run ruled UC Santa Barbara, 12-1, Friday night in five innings at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
The offense was spread throughout the lineup as Amber Flores highlighted the night with a grand slam while Savannah Long went 2-for-3 with two doubles. In addition, freshman Wendy Trott recorded a game-high three hits and Susan Ogden went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Greaves takes third in women’s 60-meter hurdles.
MANHATTAN, N.Y. – Sheldon Leith highlighted competition for the University of Oklahoma indoor track team at the first of two days of competition, Friday, at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City.
Leith and Latoya Greaves both finished in the top three of the 60-meter hurdles in their respective divisions. Leith posted a school-record 7.73 to finish second while Greaves finished third with a time of 8.31.
