Truro City are bidding to become only the fourth side to retain The FA Vase - but they will first have to get past Whitley Bay in the Fifth Round on Saturday.

After beating AFC Totton last May, Truro will join an elite group which includes Billericay Town, Halesowen Town and Tiverton Town if they can go all the way and repeat those joyous scenes at Wembley.

That afternoon could have turned out so differently after Totton took a 28th minute lead through Danny Potter.

But former Plymouth Argyle midfielder Kevin Wills was the architect behind the Cornwall side’s riposte.

In front of a record FA Vase crowd of 27,754, Wills dragged his side level on the stroke of half-time, controlling a swirling ball before beating his man and firing into the back of the net.

He doubled his side’s tally on 57 minutes with a rasping drive from long range that beat Totton keeper Iain Brunnschweiler.

It was game over six minutes from time when Joe Broad linked up with Andrew Watkins before sliding home.
