Colby Pridham made sure that the Halifax Mooseheads didn’t waste an opportunity to get two points in the competitive Quebec Major Junior Hockey League East Division.
Pridham scored a power-play goal in overtime as the Mooseheads beat the defending champion Lewiston Maineiacs 5-4 on Wednesday.
The win gives the Mooseheads 71 points - just one behind East-leading Saint John. The Sea Dogs have a game in hand.
The Mooseheads almost wasted a point after blowing a two-goal lead in the third period, but Pridham’s 12th of the year bailed them out.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Cape Breton 3 Rimouski 2 and Gatineau 5 Victoriaville 1.
At Halifax, Jakub Voracek, recently named the QMJHL offensive player of the month, had a goal and two assists while Andrew Bodnarchuk had a goal and an assist. Tomas Knotek and Ryan Hillier also scored, while Peter-James Corsi added two assists.
Stefano Giliati had three goals for Lewiston while Marc-Andre Daneau also scored. Todd Chinova and Stefan Chaput had two assists each.
Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 23 saves for Halifax (33-15-0-5) while Jonathan Bernier stopped 29 shots for Lewiston (29-19-3-2).

At Sydney, N.S., Dean Ouellet and Joey Haddad each had a goal and two assists as Cape Breton downed Rimouski.
Alex Lamontagne also scored for Cape Breton (30-19-3-3).
Alexandre Neron and Benoit Gervais replied for Rimouski (22-32-1-0).

At Victoriaville, Que., Paul Byron had three goals as Gatineau beat the Tigres.
Darryl Smith and Maxime Mallette also scored for Gatineau (33-17-4-2).
Jonathan Bonneau replied for the Tigres (22-28-2-2).
