SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Ashley Miharija’s day was far from perfect.
The Northern Ontario skip came into Wednesday’s play at the Canadian world junior championship with an unblemished 6-0 record in the women’s tournament, but a pair of losses dropped her Thunder Bay rink into a tie for second place.
Miharija suffered her first loss of the tournament after dropping a 6-5 decision to Mary Jane McGuire of New Brunswick in the 11th draw.
Later Wednesday, she was downed 10-4 by Ontario’s Danielle Inglis as her record fell to 6-2.
Manitoba took advantage of Miharija’s stumble and vaulted into first place, improving to 7-1 with a pair of wins.
Kaitlyn Lawes’ team hammered Newfoundland and Labrador 11-3 in Draw 10 and followed with a 6-4 win over B.C. in Draw 12.
Alberta and Nova Scotia are tied with Ontario in second place.
New Brunswick and Saskatchewan are a game behind at 5-3.
B.C. and Ontario are even at 4-4, Newfoundland and Quebec are at 3-5, P.E.I. sits at 2-6, the Northwest Territories team is at 1-7 while the Yukon’s rink is winless at 0-8.
In men’s action, Saskatchewan’s Brennen Jones won both his games to move to the top of the table with a 7-1 record.
Jones edged Ontario’s Travis Fanset 6-5 in draw 11, and followed with a 10-6 victory over Alberta in Draw 12.
Ontario is tied for second with Quebec’s William Dion at 6-2.
Alberta, B.C. and P.E.I. are tied for fourth at 5-3 while Manitoba and Northern Ontario are mid-table at 4-4.
New Brunswick and Newfoundland are at 3-5, Nova Scotia and Yukon sit at 2-6 while Northwest Territories is winless at 0-8.
