The judge who cleared India’s Harbhajan Singh of racial abusing Australia’s Andrew Symonds says human error saved the player from a bigger punishment.

Harbhajan was fined for a lesser charge of verbal abuse but John Hansen said he could have imposed a different penalty had he been aware of his past record.

One of the big trends in college football seems to be a rush to name a replacement head coach prior to the departure of the school’s current head coach. During the past two months, we’ve seen three BCS conference teams name a “coach-in-waiting” – Florida State, Kentucky, and Purdue.

At Florida State and Kentucky, the deals are relatively open-ended. Neither Bobby Bowden nor Rich Brooks have publicly indicated when they will retire. Their coaches-in-waiting — Jimbo Fisher and Joker Phillips, respectively — are signed to contracts that promise them the position at some as of yet undetermined date. And if that doesn’t come to pass, the coaches-in-waiting receive a large payout. It is a true “transition plan” approach.

The FA can confirm that Stuart Pearce will work alongside Fabio Capello with the England senior team, starting with next Wednesday’s friendly against Switzerland.

Pearce will continue as England Under-21 Coach and will join up with the senior set-up immediately after the Under-21s’ match against Ireland on Tuesday. He will then be involved with the senior team for the duration of the two planned end of season friendlies when the Under-21s do not play.

England Manager Fabio Capello explained: “From the start I made it clear to everyone that I wanted an English Coach as part of my coaching team. I have spoken with Trevor Brooking and Stuart Pearce about this at length and I’m very happy that Stuart is working with me.

Joey Perricone was perfect in net for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but with the offence he had in front of him he didn’t need to be.

Perricone made 30 saves and Jason Bast, Terrance Delaronde and Riley Holzapfel each had a power-play goal and an assist as the Warriors hammered the Red Deer Rebels 6-0 in Western Hockey League action Tuesday.
