Binghamton, N.Y. – Canadian forward Mark Mancari of the Rochester Americans shattered the American Hockey League record in the "Hardest Shot" event Sunday at the AHL All-Star Skills Competition.
The London, Ont., native – added as a replacement for Clarke MacArthur, who is on recall with the Buffalo Sabres – received a standing ovation from the sellout crowd with a blistering shot that registered 102.8 miles per hour on the radar gun.
Andrew Wilkins, known more for his defensive skills, scored once and added an assist as the London Knights beat the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 4-2 for their sixth victory in a row.
Wilkins scored an empty-net goal with 12 seconds remaining in the third period, only his sixth goal of the season, to seal London’s victory. He set up Kale Kerbashian for a goal late in the second period that put the Knights (28-16-2-2) ahead 2-1.
Here are the results from the first annual Belfast-Beltway Boxing Classic held last night in front of a sellout crowd at the Westin Washington, DC City Center Hotel:
Brady Sensibaugh defeated Thomas James Waite — 64 pound weight class — by decision
Derek Potter over Mykal Fox - 85 pound — by decision.
NEW YORK — Die-hard Giants and Patriots fan are paying record prices to scalpers for tickets to this year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., and the total dollar volume of resold seats could be the biggest ever, according to ticketing firms.
Asking prices for the Feb. 3 game range from $2,450 to $19,446 at StubHub, a unit of eBay Inc. and the biggest of the online resellers. Officials there say the average price so far is $4,300 for tickets that the National Football League originally priced at either $700 or $900.

Lee • 2007-08 OU Women’s Basketball Central • Oklahoma Season Statistics | Big 12 Conference | NCAA NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – With Amanda Thompson rediscovering her game, No. 11 Oklahoma is looking more like a contender again.

Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez II (August 4, 2007)
Israel Vazquez reclaims title in the bloody rematch Photo: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME It was a decidedly different story in the second fight down in Hidalgo, Texas and the rematch turned into a bloody and brutal border war. In the 6th, cut and bleeding badly over both of his eyes, Vasquez dropped Marquez with a whistling left hook to the chin. The champion managed to beat the count but he was clearly shaken when the title fight resumed. Later in the round despite blood streaming down the right side of his face, the challenger Vasquez unloaded another wicked volley of thundering shots while catching Marquez along the ropes.
Vasquez staggered Marquez with a left hook to the side of his skull driving him backwards and following two more clubbing shots referee Guadalupe Garcia jumped between the fighters and ended the mayhem at 1:16 of the 6th round. Marquez was still on his feet; however, with heavy swelling under both of his eyes and a nasty gash on his right cheek. The fighter who had held the WBC 122-pound belt for five months was done. The champion turned challenger was once more the champion, while blood flowed down his face in rivulets across his chest and splattered on the sky blue canvas.
With this penalty, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o Fils, three-time African Footballer of the Year, scored his 14th cup of nations goal to match the record set by Laurent Pokou of the Ivory Coast back in 1968.
It was a relief to see Arsenal regroup and play the sort of soccer that they are capable of against Newcastle in their 4th round FA showdown. After the dispiriting loss against Spurs and the fracas involving Bendtner and Adebayor, it was a week filled with lots of post match distractions and potential recrimination.
The FA took a closer look at Bendtner bloodying at the hands of Adebayor. Even Bendtner’s father got into the act, sending Adebayor a clear lay off my son message.
