OHL: Knights beat the Majors

OHL

Andrew Wilkins, known more for his defensive skills, scored once and added an assist as the London Knights beat the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 4-2 for their sixth victory in a row.

Wilkins scored an empty-net goal with 12 seconds remaining in the third period, only his sixth goal of the season, to seal London’s victory. He set up Kale Kerbashian for a goal late in the second period that put the Knights (28-16-2-2) ahead 2-1.

Akim Aliu and Vladimir Roth had the other goals for the Knights. Aliu’s goal, his 18th of the season, was a rocket shot that produced a delay of several minutes while the play was reviewed by the video goal judge. The puck came out of the net at a weird angle that raised doubt as to whether it actually entered the net. It was eventually ruled a goal.

Kris Sparre and Casey Cizikas scored for the Majors (23-23-1-1). Sparre’s goal, his 20th of the season, put the Majors ahead 1-0 midway through the second. Cizikas brought Mississauga to within a goal when he scored late in the third period after the Majors pulled goaltender Anthony Grieco for a sixth attacker.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Brampton 5 Plymouth 4; Kingston 3 Windsor 1; Kitchener 4 Sudbury 2; Guelph 5 Sault Ste. Marie 4; and Niagara 3 Sarnia 1.
