What have you been doing in New Zealand these last few weeks? After a brief but quiet Christmas at home in Hampshire, we hopped on to a plane and came to Wellington to launch the new Open 60. The first sail aboard the Aviva 222 on 2 January was amazing. She is lighter and the technology generally with these types of boat has moved on considerably. If you had told me a few years ago one day I would be racing on one of these machines as the skipper I would have thought you mad. After a hectic two weeks getting acquainted with the new Aviva we will take her apart this week and ship her back to Europe.

So Leicester are gone, and Wasps must fight the good fight to the bitter end with no guarantee of redemption. As recently as a couple of seasons ago, even the remote prospect of the most trophy-laden teams in the country both failing to make the knockout stage of the Heineken Cup would have led to ominous rumblings in the bowels of Twickenham, wild mirth in the Celtic lands and a celebratory glass raised in the inner sanctum of the International Board. “Professional club rugby? Dany Heatley

Ottawa Senators forward Dany Heatley suffered a separated shoulder in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Detroit and will be out of action for 4-6 weeks.

Heatley missed most of the third period when he crashed hard into the end boards with Red Wings winger Dallas Drake. Heatley was slouched over when he left the ice and was favouring his shoulder. He didn’t return to the game.

Internazionale maintained their seven-point lead at the top of Serie A after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s double helped the champions to a 3-2 win at lowly Siena yesterday.

Roma moved back up to second after coming from behind to beat Atalanta 2-1 thanks to Francesco Totti’s low free kick and Amantino Mancini’s strike. Luciano Spalletti’s side moved above Juventus, who drew 1-1 at Catania on Saturday and are three points behind in third.

Oilers Celebrate

(Sports Network) – The Edmonton Oilers will try for their longest winning streak of the season tonight, when they welcome the rival Calgary Flames for a Northwest Division battle at Rexall Place.

The Oilers have won three straight games for the second time this year and a victory tonight will give the club a four-game streak for the first time since rattling off five wins in a row from November 13-24 of last season.

Jason Thompson scored 28 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and blocked five shots to lead Rider to an 81-67 win over Loyola of Maryland on Sunday.

Ryan Thompson added 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Harris Mansell had 13 points for the Broncs (11-6, 4-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Gerald Brown had 20 points and six rebounds to lead the Greyhounds (7-10, 3-3), while Michael Tuck and Marquis Sullivan each scored 10 points.

NEW YORK – The high-flying Montreal Canadiens are the only team that brings out the best in the New York Rangers lately.

New York is 2-4-1 in its last seven games, with both wins coming against its Original Six rival from north of the border.

Petr Prucha and Nigel Dawes had a goal and an assist apiece, goalie Henrik Lundqvist got back on track, and the Rangers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Canadiens on Saturday night.

If only we could persuade everyone to stick to the rules as steadfastly as golfers adhere to theirs, the world would undoubtedly be a better place.

Not that there wouldn’t be any disputes. No one argues more vehemently about rule interpretations than golfers,but they never come to blows and always submit dutifullyto arbitration.
