Tony Pulis

said: “I thought we were a bit tepid in the first half. The second half was more like us. We got the tempo up and took the game to them. It’s desperately disappointing because we had numerous opportunities.

“The chairman will be very pleased. They will be a different proposition at St. James’ and we know that. We had a great opportunity today but I’m very pleased and very proud of the players. The second half was more like us.”

said: “I think we could have won it. It was a fantastic performance from the players. To see a sloppy goal go in like that could have really destroyed all the hard work they had done. But what a great response.

“We still had some chances after that. But, as a manager, I am very proud of the way the players played today. We matched them football for football but we had to match them with heart, running and endeavour. Everything you look for in a team, I got from my team today and I am delighted.

“It would have been thoroughly unjust had we lost. We have come away with a draw and it changes everything again because of the finances for the club.”

Paul Jewell said: “I think the goals we gave away were synonymous of our season so far. But I pay great tribute to the character we showed. We’d have lost that game a month ago, even three weeks ago.

“In the light of it, two-goals down within 22 minutes against a side struggling in the Championship, we were staring down a barrel.

“At 2-2 I thought we might go on and win it but we live to fight another day. With the situation we are in at the minute we’ll take any crumb of comfort.

“The two goals we gave away were pretty unbelievable but I’ve said that every week since I’ve been here.”

Fulham

Paul Trollope

said: “Those supporters were immense – as usual. They give us backing like that every week even though they are not crammed into one area like that at The Memorial Stadium and they will be well up for the replay.

“We’ve done what people call the hard bit and brought Fulham back for the replay but I don’t pretend they are still not favourites.

“But we are actually a little bit disappointed to have come out with only a draw after leading twice and I think we should be very hopeful of landing the cup shock on our own ground under lights. It should be a great night.”

Burnley

Arsenal

Eduardo 8, Bendtner 74

Arsene Wenger

said: “Burnley played very well. They missed the first big chance and I believe that header could have had a big weight on the game.

“With the performance they put in I think it would have been a very difficult game for us if they had gone 1-0 up. We then took our chance, but Eduardo missed another good chance to score a second – the surprise of the day is that he missed it – you quickly get used to him scoring a goal when you want him to but he scored one and got an assist for the second so overall I believe the two strikers did well.

“Credit to Burnley, they played very well and in a fair way and with the way they play I am surprised they are in their position in the Championship – perhaps it’s better to be in the Premier League!”

Aston Villa

Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson

said: “I have been trying to find a new Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a substitute – although I don’t think Wayne would appreciate that.

“Wayne changed the game when he came on. He brought us thrust and enthusiasm and direct play. He attacked defenders and made a heck of a difference to the game.

“It is difficult to say why we have such a good record here. It is a traditional, old-fashioned football ground. The fans are right on top of you and there is always a good atmosphere.

“We had 7,500 fans here, who had a real party. Every time we come to Aston Villa, they are really up for it. They can make a difference, which is the point I made last week. When our fans are like that, we do not let them down.”

Avram Grant

said: “It was a typical cup game. We did our job, that is most important for me. We are in the next round. QPR played tactically very well. They were very clever and closed the space very well.

“It was a game like we expected. We held the ball most of the time. They tried to score at set-pieces. We scored one goal and created more chances but what is important is to be in the next round. In the cup it is important to do your job and we did that.”

West Ham United

Manchester City

Alan Curbishley

said: “I am delighted what our players have done defensively but we just need a bit more going the other way.

“I can’t ask any more from the players. Everyone connected with the club realises the situation we are in and we will just keep going.

“The replay may now give us an opportunity for one or two of our players on their way back from injury to get a game.

“We have been looking to fix a game up that week but we don’t need to now. I have got Faubert playing on Monday night in the reserves, while Luis Boa Morte and James Collins will also play.”

Preston North End

Scunthorpe United

Alan Irvine

said: “It was a very important game. People were asking if it was a relief from the League, but it wasn’t.

“I felt the same before the game as I have felt before all the games. The FA Cup is a special competition and the third round is a special day.

“I am delighted to have won. Would I have swapped it for three points in the League? I’d like both.

“I hope we get a home draw at Deepdale. What that means exactly I’m not quite sure, but it would be nice to get one of the big teams playing here.”

said: “The game should have been over by half-time, the referee got them back into it but we had a great start to the second-half.

“It was a hell of a decision for the referee to give a penalty when there were a lot of bodies in the way but the performance was excellent. We came to a Championship team and gave them a bit of a battering.

“It was a good performance.”

Bolton Wanderers

David Carney

said: “We can take confidence from this win. If we can string four or five victories together then you should see us in the play-offs. That is where we belong.

“I was happy to get off the mark as it was my first game in the FA Cup.

“I made a few runs in the first half but I did not get picked out. Then Stephen played the ball through and I got on the end of it. It was an end-to-end game and to win against a club like Bolton is a big relief.”

Blackburn Rovers

Michael Mifsud

said: “I always believe in my ability and the Premier League is where I want to be. We knew this wasn’t going to be an easy game but every one of us played with his heart and gave his best to get the result.

“Blackburn are a massive club but everybody played really well. Demitrios Konstantopoulos made a great save from Benni McCarthy in the first half which turned the game around.

“The back four were just amazing and the midfield ran a marathon. The three of us up front (Mifsud, Leon Best and Dele Adebola) were a threat
all the time. Blackburn had their own chances, particularly in the second half, but we should have won by more.”

Brighton & Hove Albion

Billy Dearden

said: “We have done tremendously, we fully deserved to win. We didn’t just snatch victory and in the end we could have scored more.

“We were the better side and played a lot of good football. They did not create that many chances.

“Now we have got to build on that and take it into the league performances.

“Perhaps this will help to encourage players to come to us as we look to strengthen the squad in the transfer window.”

Alan Pardew

said: “I was pleased today. We let everyone down on New Year’s Day and we corrected that. There was some really good performance from some young players, and it was a shame we didn’t have a bigger crowd to see it.

“But we should have won. Dean Kiely played really well. We seem to have a habit of making our old players look good at the moment.

“I don’t think there is much difference in the teams, except in the goalscoring charts. Hopefully, we will see more goals from our young forwards over the second half of the season. I thought we were the better side and psychologically that will help us.”

Aidy Boothroyd

said: “I was looking for this youthful team that Neil was going to put out and then I saw [Clinton] Morrison, [James] Scowcroft and [Matthew] Lawrence, and one or two others.

“I thought he might have put more young players in, to be honest. There was only really Bostock and Hills.

“Was it predictable? We’re at home so the answer to that is no. The fact that we won is a big monkey off our back I think and it’s nice that our fans have the humour to put up with what they’ve had to put up with and then we get a win at home. I’m thrilled with that and now we’ve got to take that forward.”

Ronnie Moore

said: “We should have been six up and not worrying about clawing our way back. We had enough chances and now we face another game we could have done without. We had the lion’s share of the game but it became a nerve-racking affair for all of us.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game but had we taken on chances we would have won comfortably. But to be fair it was a cracking cup tie and now we must lift our game for the replay and hope for a big club in the next stage.”

Steve Coppell

said: “Stephen Hunt has a bit of the mentality of the Wimbledon team of not so long back. He’s always got something to prove.

“He was a free transfer from Brentford and that gives him a real motivation to enjoy every game he’s playing at this level and also to try to improve himself.

“He works ever so hard in training and this is the culmination. He should be an inspiration to all the pros in the lower divisions.”

said: “With the players we have got we should be at least in the top ten. We felt comfortable in the match and hopefully the result will spur us on to build a run in the Premier League.

“We have some good players so I am not surprised we were able to come here and dominate.I just had a feeling it was the right time to push forward. Usually I only go up for corners and free-kicks but I knew when Lee got the ball he would deliver the right cross.

“I was pleased to finish it off, although the ball may have gone in off my studs.”

Huddersfield Town

Andy Ritchie

said: “We rode our luck on one of two occasions but we had the chances. It’s fantastic for the town, the fans and not least the players.

“But it’s back down to earth on Monday, I think that result challenges us to reproduce that form in the league – that’s what I’ll be saying to the lads in the week.

“Phil Jevons was suffering with a thigh strain and we left him on the bench because, to be honest, we were trying to protect one or two because the league is our main focus.”

Swansea City

Charlie Oatway

said: “‘It helped us because it disorganised them a little bit. I’m not making out that they were all over the shop, but he’d been calling the shots for them and we went a little bit more brazen, going with three defenders in what was a last- chance saloon. And it paid off.

“This is a great occasion for the football club and it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people. To get in this round and play a club of Swansea’s stature, with their new ground and the way they are in the League, was always going to be an achievement. To be totally honest, anyone who goes into the third round, especially a non-League club, you wish you’d got someone higher. But once you sit down and reflect on what this club is it was a great draw for us today.”

Southend United

said: “”It was a tough game and I’m glad to get through to the next round.

“We went 2-1 down but the boys rolled their sleeves up and dug in. At the end of the day the score was not important, the result was and hopefully we can build on that against Yeovil next weekend.

“It was probably Dean Morgan’s best performance for us since his arrival from Luton.”

Sunderland

Wigan Athletic

Roy Keane

said: “If we had been here until next week, we wouldn’t have scored, which surprised me because generally at home, we have looked a threat.

“But we have to get back and focus on our league form, we do not have a choice. That’s our bread and butter. We will get back to that and it is a tough game
for us next week.

“Listen, how many games have we lost this year? We have lost lots of games this year. I sound like an old record player, but we have got to work harder, we have got to bring in one or two players and we keep persevering. You have to persevere in life. We have a tough game (against Portsmouth) next week.

“We gave players a chance on Saturday, we are chopping and changing, we are bringing players in. We brought Jonny back in and we will maybe have one or two for next week – but that is a big if.”

Everton

Oldham Athletic

McDonald 45

John Sheridan

said: “I told the lads to go out, have a pint, do what they want. Because this will not happen too much to them in their careers. They won’t beat a Premier League side too often. They all did brilliantly.

“I’ve only been a manager for about a year and a half. So this is pretty special for me. I am enjoying what I am doing. I believe we are going in the right direction
and I am just trying to put belief into young kids.

“I have a lot of respect for David Moyes and his players. A lot of them came into our dressing room to say ‘well done’ to the youngsters, David too, and they wished us good luck.

“Financially maybe it would be good if we got Manchester United or someone really big next, but I would rather we got Havant and Waterlooville because I want to go as far as we can.”

Southampton

Leicester City

Surman 15, Vignal 35

Ian Holloway

said: “I thought we were poor in the first half and to give away goals from set pieces is inexcusable.

“Howard and Hayles are still bedding into the side and it is bound to take time but those are the sort of players I want in my side.

“We were better after the break when we tightened up a bit but by then Southampton were two goals ahead and it was always going to be a big task to get that back.”

Ipswich Town

Portsmouth

Nugent 50

Harry Redknapp

said: “They are a good side and played some terrific football and in the last 10 minutes, they put us under some pressure when Jamo made some great saves.

“But with some of the sides which have gone out today, that shows how difficult the FA Cup can be.”

Simon Davey

said: “I am pleased for Michael, he has worked hard and he deserves that. He is capable of coming off the bench and changing a game, as he has shown.

“I am not sure he is ready to start a game yet as we are still trying to develop him and keep his feet on the ground. I am not blind, we were poor in the first-half. We lacked a spark and Michael provided it.

“I felt that both sides were poor but I am obviously delighted to get through. What would be nice would be a big tie at home in the next round – that would be good for the club.”

Swindon Town

Paul Fairclough

said: “This is what the FA Cup is all about. I can’t wait to get them back at our place, I really fancy our chances.

“Not only was it a brilliant strike – but his first touch to take the ball down from the long kick was magnificent too.

“It was just what we’d planned. There was no panic when we went a goal down because plan B was to keep ourselves in the game and hit them in the last 20 minutes.”

Norwich City

Bury

Glenn Roeder

said: “We didn’t play nearly as well as we can today but we created enough clear-cut chances to have won two games let alone one.

“When you create chances you simply have to take them and our failure to do that has cost us dearly, not just today but over the entire Christmas period. I should probably have known what was going to happen after 40 seconds when Chris Martin failed to hit the target from close range. That’s the way it went on and it’s something that has got to improve.

“We worked very hard on finishing in training and the lads don’t seem to have too much trouble hitting the back of the net but at the moment it’s just not happening in games. Our strikers, in fact a lot of our players, are not fulfilling their part of the bargain when they get a chance on goal.

“We had Chris Martin missing from a few yards, Darren Huckerby failing to put it away when clean through and then Jon Otsemobor hitting the ball straight at the keeper right at the end when he should have been putting it in the back of the net. We have got to be a lot better.”

Walsall

0-0

Millwall

Kenny Jackett

said: “It was slightly different to two weeks ago. We made it competitive and in the first half we had a couple of good efforts and it was 50-50.

“In the second half Walsall came at us very strong and we couldn’t be offensive, and our breaks were wasted. But we withstood the pressure against a strong Walsall side.

“We are looking forward to the replay; it was an achievement for the away side to bring Walsall back to the Den. It’s nice to be still in the draw.”

said: “He made one and scored one but we shouldn’t have had to rely on him. He has been chirping at me to play. It was nice to have Michael Kightly back.

“I knew if I put him on the bench, he would create an atmosphere. It is a relief that we beat them at home – it is a relief but it was deserved. We’ve still won and we are in the hat. But we were as wasteful as anything.”

Charlie Blakemore said: “It’s just been an absolute dream. I was really in dreamland when we scored and it’s just a shame when we couldn’t have perhaps held the lead until half-time.

“They scored at a critical moment, it lifted Cardiff, you could see that. They stepped the game up in the second half on the back of that.

“I can be really proud of what we’ve achieved, even today we were still in it. Second half, they were passing it for fun but our lads just kept running and working. I’m the proudest man in the whole of the world today of my lads because they have been just awesome.

“To achieve what they have achieved throughout the cup run, not just today, has been out of this world. Credit to Cardiff, they’re a good side, but I don’t think we’ve disgraced ourselves.”
