WHL: Pats edge the Hurricanes

Two of Regina’s newest players made their home debuts against the Lethbridge Hurricanes Saturday night, both with varying degrees of success. Dallas Jackson had a solid night, while J.D. Watt’s had an outing he’d like to soon forget.

The Pats won the game in a shootout 2-1, with Jordan Eberle scoring the winner and assisting on Jackson’s marker in the second period.

Darnell Jackson scored 25 points with nine rebounds and Darrell Arthur added 22 points in front of a surprisingly supportive road crowd on Saturday to lead No. 3 Kansas to an 85-60 victory over Boston College.

Kansas won its first 14 games for the sixth time in school history, and the Jayhawks remained one of six unbeaten teams in the nation with one game left before next week’s Big 12 opener against Nebraska. Boston College (10-3) failed in its first game against a ranked opponent this season.

Havant and Waterlooville scored a late equaliser against League One leaders Swansea City to ensure a non-League club go into the hat for The FA Cup Fourth Round draw on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the two other non-League sides in the Third Round – Chasetown and Cambridge United – took the lead against Championship sides Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively, but ended falling at the last.

Starter/reliever Gerry Staley, who won 88 games in 7 and a fraction seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and later was a standout in the bullpen for the 1959 AL pennant winning Chicago White Sox, passed away this past Wednesday at age 87.

His son Brian told media on Friday that he died of natural causes at his home in Vancouver.
