NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans quarterback Vince Young practiced on a limited basis Wednesday but lost one of his favorite targets when tight end Bo Scaife was placed on injured reserve with a lacerated liver.

Scaife won’t be available for the playoffs. Tennessee plays at San Diego in the first round Sunday, and Young hopes to start despite a sore right quadriceps.

Marreese Speights had 24 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs, and Florida ended its non-conference schedule with an 88-70 victory over High Point on Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-10 Speights made the most of his height advantage, getting the majority of his points in the paint.

I can now confirm an earlier anonymous posting of this sad situation. Undefeated Front Royal, VA cruiserweight Terry “T-Brick” Roy was stabbed during an altercation in front of his home last week. Roy suffered nine stab wounds during the attack which sources tell me was the aftermath of an argument in the home.

Roy is reportedly listed in stable condition and is recovering at Winchester Medical Center. If you would like to send a card to Terry Roy, the address to the center is 1840 Amherst St, Winchester, VA 22601.

PASADENA, Calif. — Southern California coach Pete Carroll sat in front of dozens of media members Tuesday night, less than an hour after his No. 7 Trojans had dismantled No. 13 Illinois 49-17 in the Rose Bowl.

It didn’t take long for the obvious question to be asked: After winning its fifth consecutive game in dominant fashion, was USC the best team in college football?

A play-by-play, quarter-by-quarter account with thoughts on the game, broadcast and more for the 2008 Sugar Bowl between Hawaii and Georgia.

By Pete Fiutak
Welcome again to my pretentious, goofy and self-serving stream-of-consciousness thoughts and notes on the big games, the broadcasts, the ads and the teams for the attention deficit disordered. E-mail me with your own thoughts and notes and what you’d like to see.

Pregame

- I’ve been getting beaten up by Hawaii fans for not giving their team the proper respect. I’m sorry, but the team’s best win came over a Boise State team that lost to East Carolina. The Warriors played a miserable schedule and still struggled to beat San Jose State (I know it was a sloppy track) and Louisiana Tech. If Georgia acts like this is for the national title, Hawaii has no chance whatsoever. If Georgia thinks it can just show up and win, Colt Brennan and the boys will put a big number on the board. I’m still not sure that’ll be enough to pull it off. Hawaii won’t stop Georgia’s ground game.

– Has Georgia’s secondary faced any sort of high-end passing game? Kentucky’s might qualify, but Hawaii takes things to a different level. The Bulldogs corners will be pushed all game long if the front four doesn’t force Brennan to hurry his throws.

Maria Sharapova’s Australian Open 2008 dresses
It’s always worth taking a look at the fashion choices of Russian fashionista Maria Sharapova who always introduces something completely new and impressive (check out my retrospection of her 2007 outfits). For the 2008 Australian Open Sharapova opted for the two khaki dresses.

The one with white top part will probably be her Australian Open day dress. For night matches, Sharapova will be wearing the dress with long center pleating in the front and back, pleating at the hem and a hint of a white slip underneath. Seems Sharapova is continuing the classy style of her Sony Ericsson Championships outfit, and I love it. Out of the two, I prefer the night dress because it’s much more unique, and has really interesting details. The photos are after the cut.
