Helped by the win over Oklahoma,, Bill Stewart is the new head coach at West Virginia.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – West Virginia University has named Bill Stewart the school’s 32nd football coach immediately.
“He obtained this position the old fashioned way – he earned it,†said Ed Pastilong, WVU Director of Athletics, who made the announcement at the team hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz. “Billy led us to our biggest football victory in the school’s history against Oklahoma and he, his coaching staff and his support staff are outstanding Mountaineers, leading us through a tough time. Our future is bright, and we look forward to even more success under Coach Stewart’s leadership.â€

Barnet Ladies coach Tracey Kevins insists her side are feeling optimistic about their FA Women’s Cup Fourth Round tie with Everton this weekend – despite losing 6-0 to the team from Merseyside earlier this season.
Barnet play a division below Everton, who are currently fifth in the Premier League with games in hand, but are full of confidence ahead of Sunday’s tie after thrashing Reading by 10-2 in the previous round.

DOHA, Qatar – Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko beat Fabrice Santoro 6-3, 6-3 Wednesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open.
The fourth-ranked Russian broke his French opponent once in the first set and twice in the second. He next faces eighth-seeded Dmitry Tursunov.

LLEYTON Hewitt proved far too good for Jose Acasuso, as he sweept into the Adelaide International quarter-finals at Memorial Drive.
Hewitt, the No.1 seed, won 16 of the first 19 points of the match to claim a 4-0 lead in the first set, and he was barely troubled in taking the match 6-2 6-2 in 61 minutes.
The South Australian served up an anti-climactic double fault on his first match point, but he was impressively focused on the goal of winning his home tournament in its final renewal before relocating to Brisbane.

AUSTRALIA claimed two late wickets on day two of the New Year’s Test against India, the tourists going to stumps at 3-216 after a stylish 109 from V.V.S. Laxman.
Laxman and Rahul Dravid shared a 175-run partnership for the second wicket after India’s reply to Australia’s first-innings total of 463 had got off to a bad start with Brett Lee bowling Wasim Jaffer for 3 to leave the tourists at 1-8.
Laxman and Dravid edged India into a position of strength, just as they had done with their famous 376-run partnership in Kolkata in 2000-2001 and their 303-run stand in Adelaide four years ago, before Mitchell Johnson finally made a breakthrough.
