SCO: Celtic tops Gretna, holds league lead

Rangers won 2-1 at Hibernian, leaving Celtic in need of victory to retain top spot, and the defending champion got the win through goals by Scott McDonald, Scott Brown and Aiden McGeady.

McDonald put the home side ahead in the 35th with a shot from the edge of the area, and Brown made it 2-0 four minutes after halftime. Celtic controlled the game and twice hit the frame of the goal before McGeady scored with a deflected shot in the final minute.

Celtic has 43 points from 20 games, two more than Rangers, which has played two games fewer.

Motherwell strengthened its hold on third place with a 5-3 win over Dundee United that took it to 45 points. Falkirk beat visiting Hearts 2-1, and Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat visiting Kilmarnock 3-1.
