PETER Moody foreshadowed an Oaks future for Skye Gold after she racked up a hat-trick in the MVRC Party 25/1 Handicap at Moonee Valley.
Ridden by Luke Nolen, the daughter of Galileo started the $3.50 favourite and added to wins at Pakenham and Kilmore with a brilliant finish to score by 1¼ lengths from Bay Route ($51) with Validator ($4.20) a long head away third in the 1600m race.
Moody said the AJC Oaks could be within reach of Skye Gold, who has raced only five times.
He said that she was crying out for longer races.
"We were worried she was going to need (2000m) today and I think only her ability got her home on the line," Moody said.
"We might put her away now as she deserves a crack at a better race, and that might be the South Australian Oaks or the Queensland Oaks later in the season.
"We may even look at the AJC Oaks with her because she is a nice filly with a lovely pedigree and is going to stay all day."
Nolen said Moody had placed the filly well and that she was a developing stayer.
"She is on the way up for sure," Nolen said.
"I think she will stay and three-year-olds like her are always a chance in races like that (Oaks)."
Skye Gold’s dam, Devil’s Gold, won four races from 1400m to 1800m, and the filly is her third winner from five foals to race.
Her most notable foal was Bardego, who won the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes and Blue Diamond Preview.
Another relative, Maha Chakri, won the 2007 Tasmanian Oaks.
