Spengler Cup: Canada dumps Davos 6-2

Serge Aubin and Yannick Tremblay each had a goal and an assist to lift Canada to a 6-2 win over Swiss club Davos at the Spengler Cup on Thursday.

Mike Siklenka opened the scoring for Canada on the power play nine minutes into the first period. The Swiss side evened things up with a power play goal of their own five minutes later and took the lead on another power play goal five minutes into the second period.

WILD Oats XI has claimed a history equalling third consecutive line honours victory in the Rolex Sydney-Hobart, but has missed out on the race record.

The majestic NSW maxi crossed the finish line in Hobart at 10.24am Friday to complete the 628 nautical mile race in one day, 21 hours and 24 minutes.

It was expected to finish around 8.30am but a light breeze slowed her final progress.

ROQUE Santa Cruz ended Blackburn Rovers’ four-game losing streak with a controversial late equaliser to seal a 2-2 draw at Manchester City. Video

Santa Cruz took his tally to seven goals in his last four games with the 82nd minute header which had initially been ruled out for offside by assistant referee Darren Cann before being awarded by referee Howard Webb.

It was a crucial goal that ended City’s hopes of claiming 10 successive league home wins and moving into fourth spot in the Premier League ahead of Liverpool, who visit Eastlands on Sunday.

Justine Henin named United States Sports Academy Female Athlete of the Year
Justine Henin has added the 2007 United States Sports Academy Female Athlete of the Year award to her already impressive list of achievements. It's the first time Justine has won this very popular American sports award.

The online ballot was presented by United States' daily newspaper – the USA TODAY and communications giant MSNBC. The poll received hundreds of thousands of votes from all around the world, and Henin took first place on the female side. Second place went to Venus Williams, while American swimmer Natalie Coughlin finished in third place. (via Justine Henin's site)

Barton arrested in assault probe
The England midfielder was one of three people arrested

Newcastle and England midfielder Joey Barton has been arrested by police in Liverpool following an alleged assault.

The footballer was arrested along with a 19-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman on Church Street in the city centre at 0530 GMT.
