The FA has received a claim for wrongful dismissal from Aston Villa defender Zat Knight.

Knight was shown a red card for the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity during Villa’s game against Chelsea on Wednesday 26 December.

A Regulatory Commission will consider the claim on Friday 28 December.

Schumacher F1 future further in doubt

STUTTGART, Germany – A report that Ralf Schumacher is taking a year off from racing increased speculation on Thursday that his Formula One career may be permanently over.

At least one report claimed the German had split from his manager Hans Mahr, who he began working with over a year ago after leaving longtime manager Willi Weber.

Medal hopeful Xiang to skip track meets

BEIJING – Liu Xiang, China’s top medal hope in track for the Summer Olympics, will not compete in some European competitions next year to focus on preparations for the Beijing Games.

Liu, the gold medallist in the 110-metre hurdles at the Athens Games, will miss Golden League series meets in June and July, his coach Sun Haiping was quoted as saying in the state-run China Daily on Thursday.
