Marbury set to return to Knicks lineup

KOBE Bryant netted 38 points while Andrew Bynum grabbed a career-high 28 as Los Angeles Lakers posted a 122-115 victory over Phoenix Suns.

Bynum added 12 rebounds, while Derek Fisher scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half of the National Basketball Association contest as the Lakers ended a five-game Christmas losing streak.

The Lakers have played on Christmas Day every year since 1999, but the Suns hadn’t played on the holiday in 11 years – when they lost to the Lakers.

Samantha Stosur withdraws from both Australian Open and Gold Coast
Australia's No.1 women's tennis player Samantha Stosur is forced to miss the Australian circuit because she didn’t have enough time to prepare. Stosur was unable to compete on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour for most of the last half of the season due to two serious illnesses and she only resumed training three weeks ago.

The world No.46 has withdrawn from the Australian Open, as well as from her home event, the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts on the Gold Coast.

Almunia’s huge moment when he stopped Robbie Keane’s penalty probably sealed his first place position permanently. Jens Lehmann has seen the light and reportedly on his way to Wolfsburg. With younger players like Timo Hildebrandt and Manuel Neuer pushing their claims for a spot on the German national team, its important for Lehmann to begin making regular appearances.

However, what do you make of the Almunia’s desire to play for England? Can we deconstruct this in terms of what is happening in England today? The PFA and many English managers fault the influx of foreign players for the decline in national team fortunes. Fabio Capello’s hire has English managers champing at the teeth with some loud nationalistic chest beating going on. The manager establishment is feeling a bit beleaguered now.

If the folks in Austin and Norman ever wondered what their loyalty to the aging Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas has cost them, Dallas Cowboys owner (and Arkansas alum) was more than happy to show them this week. Jones has been working for months with Texas A&M and Arkansas to bring an annual rivalry game to his new stadium in Arlington.

The price tag? A guaranteed $5 million… per team… per year… for at least six years. Texas & Oklahoma each receive approximately $4.7 million/year for their game in Dallas.
