As part of the Royal Navy FA’s Defence Diplomacy policy, HMS Nottingham called at Forteleza and Rio Janeiro in Brazil en route for duty in the South Atlantic.

In Forteleza, members of the ship’s football team visited two local orphanages and carried out some DIY to improve the living conditions of the children.

They also played football against local football teams and ran coaching sessions under the leadership of the ship’s Physical Training instructor Kev Green, presenting the children with England kit and balls.

Conquest Racing says it has solidified its future in Champ Car with the signing of Australian-based financial services provider Opes Prime Group as its marketing partner.

Opes Prime shareholder Anthony Blumberg has also acquired an equity stake in the team, providing it with the necessary captial investment to grow the team over the next two seasons.

RUGBY’S traditional clubs in Sydney and Brisbane are set to play a pivotal role in any replacement competition for the axed Australian Rugby Championship.

A group of establishment clubs fought tooth and nail to avoid the amalgamated teams of the ARC, which was cut last week after a seven-figure loss in its only season.

But Australian Rugby Union acting chief executive Matt Carroll said the clubs would form the foundations of a third tier tournament loosely proposed for 2009.
