GLASGOW, Scotland - Rangers beat Hearts 2-1 on Saturday to close to within two points of Scottish league leader Celtic.
Midfielder Lee McCulloch scored twice at Ibrox to move his side closer to the defending champions, who play at Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Sunday.
McCulloch put the Gers ahead in the 18th minute when he collected a loose ball and shot past goalkeeper Eduardas Kurskis, and, although Andrius Velicka got his eighth goal of the season in the 56th, McCulloch scored the winner with three minutes left.
Rangers moved up to 34 points from 15 matches, two more than third-place Motherwell, which scored three times in the first half to beat Aberdeen 3-0.
Forward Ross McCormack scored twice and Steven McGarry once.
Dundee United is three points further back after a 3-0 win at St. Mirren, while Hibernian drew 1-1 with Falkirk and last-place Gretna drew 3-3 at Kilmarnock.
