Richard H. McLaren, a Professor of Law at the University of Western Ontario who also serves as a sports arbitrator, was part of the committee that helped research and table the 409-page document issued on Thursday.

Capello offered England job pending talks

LONDON – The Football Association approved the appointment of Fabio Capello as England’s new soccer coach Thursday, pending final contract negotiations.

The FA board approved the hiring of the former AC Milan, AS Roma and Real Madrid coach. But both sides must still finalize the terms of the contract, which reportedly involves the appointment of four fellow Italians as part of Capello’s staff.

Stanley Cup featured in Rose Parade

ANAHEIM, Calif.  – The Stanley Cup will hitch a ride on the city of Anaheim’s float in the 2008 Rose Parade.

It’s the first time the trophy will appear in the parade’s 119-year history, coinciding with the Anaheim Ducks becoming the first California hockey team to win the Cup.

Ellerby cut from Canada’s Junior team

Hockey Canada is in the process of making its cuts for the final team at the World Junior Hockey Championship, with goaltenders Leland Irving and Tyson Sexsmith, defencemen Andrew Bodnarchuk, Keaton Ellerby and Ty Wishart, and forwards Zach Hamill, Brett MacLean and Dana Tyrell among the first to be sent home.

Irving, a 2006 first-round selection of the Calgary Flames, has been the biggest surprise cut – as he was a roster player from the 2007 gold-medal winning team and the Super Series team in September. A starting netminder for the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, Sexsmith was drafted 91st overall in the 2007 Draft by the San Jose Sharks.

Canada warms up

CALGARY – Zach Boychuk of the Lethbridge Hurricanes scored twice to lead Red to a 4-0 win over White in the second intrasquad game of the Canadian junior hockey team’s selection camp Wednesday.

Boychuk, a prospect for the 2008 NHL entry draft, had a strong game for the second night in a row as he’d scored and had an assist in the first intrasquad game the previous night.
