Tyrese Rice scored 19 points to lead Boston College to a 81-78 win over Maryland on Sunday.
Rice’s final two points came on a pair of free throws with four seconds to play that clinched the win for the Eagles (7-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). John Oates also hit a free throw with one second left for the final margin.
Maryland (6-4, 0-1) trailed 71-62 with just over a minute to play, but hit five straight 3-pointers to close within 78-77.

Kansas State has been looking for someone to take the load off freshman Michael Beasley.
Bill Walker could be that player.
Walker had 30 points and 10 rebounds, and Beasley hits some big shots after a quiet first half, helping Kansas State hold off California 82-75 on Sunday.
Kansas State (6-3) matched a season low, shooting 39 percent, was 4-for-19 from 3-point range, and had 15 turnovers, yet still somehow found a win – thanks to Walker and Beasley.

COOLUM, Australia – Peter Lonard has another Australian PGA title all to himself.
The veteran Australian capped what he considered a poor season with a victory Sunday on the Hyatt Regency course he has almost made his own, winning the Australian PGA for the third time with a 7-under 65 and a three-shot victory.

WOODY Austin and Mark Calcavecchia won the $3.2 million Merrill Lynch Shootout, beating tournament host Greg Norman and teammate Bubba Watson by a stroke.
Playing a scramble format in the final round of the three-day postseason event, Austin and Calcavecchia combined to shoot a nine-under-par 63 for a total of 29-under 187.
Austin and Calcavecchia, who each won once on the US tour in 2007, held off Norman and Watson, who carded a 10-under 62 for second place on the Tiburon Golf Club course that Norman designed.

Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams have reorganized their schedules and decided to skip the Medibank International in Sydney.
The two former world number ones will instead prepare for the 2008 Australian Open at the J B GROUP Classic exhibition in Hong Kong which will take place from January 2-5. Apart from Sharapova and Williams, the exhibition in Hong Kong will include Daniela Hantuchova, Elena Dementieva, Ana Ivanovic, Anna Chakvetadze, Peng Shuai, and Caroline Wozniacki.
