QMJHL: Foreurs honour Dumont in style

QMJHL

The Val-d’Or Foreurs celebrated the retirement of J.P. Dumont’s jersey number with a game that would have made the skilled forward proud.

Brad Marchand had three goals and three assists and Jonathan Hazen also recorded a hat trick as the Foreurs outgunned the Rimouski Oceanic 8-6 Sunday in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Foreurs retired Dumont’s No. 96 jersey prior to the game. The Nashville Predators forward registered 154 goals and added 177 assists in 231 games in his four-year career with the Foreurs. He was awarded the Mike Bossy Trophy as the league’s top professional prospect following the 1995-96 season and was named the 1997-98 playoff MVP after guiding the Foreurs to their first ever President Cup title.

A number of his former teammates, including Steve Begin, Mathieu Letourneau and Lee Cousineau, were on hand for the celebrations.

The jersey raising came four days after another Nashville Predator, Alexander Radulov, had his number retired in Quebec City.


 

Marco Scandella and Maxime Levesque also scored for the Foreurs (14-16-1-2), while Marc-Andre Cote added four assists.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: St. John’s 4 Victoriaville 1; Acadie-Bathurst 5 Lewiston 3; Saint John 10 P.E.I. 3; Halifax 3 Drummondville 1; Cape Breton 5 Quebec 4 (OT); Gatineau 3 Chicoutimi 2 (SO).

At Val-d’Or, Que., Patrice Cormier and Philippe Cornet both scored a pair for Rimouski (12-19-1-0), while Philippe Garnier and Olivier Fortier also counted.

Raffaele D’Orso made 27 saves for the Foreurs, while Michael Dupont turned away 15 shots for the Oceanic.

Fog Devils 4 Tigres 1

At St. John’s, N.L., Nick Layton scored a pair to lead the Fog Devils over the Tigres.

Mario Kempe and Jean-Simon Allard also counted for the Fog Devils (13-15-1-3).

Alexandre Monahan scored his 25th goal of the season for the Tigres (17-15-0-0).

Timo Pielmeier made 28 saves for the St. John’s, while Kevin Poulin turned away 27 shots for Victoriaville.

 Titan 5 Maineiacs 3

At Bathurst, N.B., Tomy Joly continued his torrid offensive pace as he scored a goal and an assist to lead the Titan over the Maineiacs.

Joly now has thirteen goals in as many games.

Vincent Couture, Nicolas Sigouin, Mathieu Perreault and Tomas Svoboda also scored for Acadie-Bathurst (16-10-1-1).

Marc Bourgeois, Chris Tutalo and Marc-Andre Daneau also counted for Lewiston (18-12-1-1).

Nicolas Champion allowed three goals on 10 shots before being replaced by Antoine Tardiff who stopped seven shots. Jonathan Bernier turned away 36 shots for the Maineiacs.

 Sea Dogs 10 Rocket 3

At Saint John, N.B., Christopher DiDomenico scored a goal and added three assists as the Sea Dogs crushed the Rocket.

Francois Gauthier and Alexandre  Leduc scored a pair for Saint John (19-7-1-2), while Steven Anthony, Yann Sauve, Alex Grant, Scott Howes and Ryan Sparling.

Geoff Walker, Nathan DesRoches and Maxim Cliche replied for P.E.I. (12-15-1-0).

Robert Mayer made 24 saves for the Sea Dogs. Marc-Antoine Gelinas allowed seven goals on 24 shots before being replaced in the second period by Antoine Lafleur.

 Moosehead 3 Voltigeurs 1

At Halifax, N.S., Jakub Voracek scored a pair as the Mooseheads edged the Voltigeurs.

Andrew White got the other goal for Halifax (21-6-0-4).

Mike Hoffman replied for Drummondville (7-25-1-1).

Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 22 saves for the Mooseheads, while Maxim Gougeon turned away 44 shots for the Voltigeurs.   

 Screaming Eagles 5 Remparts 4 (OT)

At Sydney, N.S., Nick MacNeil scored 1:49 into overtime as the Screaming Eagles beat the Remparts.

Dean Ouellet, Jordan Clendenning, Joey Haddad and Chris Culligan also counted for Cape Breton (20-10-2-2).

Maxime Sauve, Sebastien Trudeau, Kelsey Tessier and Angelo Esposito repleid for Quebec (16-14-1-1).

Marek Benda allowed four goals on 18 shots before being replaced by Olivier Roy in the third period for the Screaming Eagles. Kevin Desfosses allowed three goals on 11 shots before being replaced by Jonathan Roy for the Remparts.

 Olympiques 3 Sagueneens 2 (SO)

At Chicoutimi, Que., Claude Giroux scored the shootout winner as the Olympiques edged the Sangueneens.

Travis Stacey and Jonathan Carrier counted in regulation for Gatineau (20-10-2-2).

Jacob Lagace and Maxime Provencher replied for Chicoutimi (15-14-1-1).

Ryan Mior made 37 saves for the Olympiques, while Bobby Nadeau turned away 18 shots for the Sangueneens.
