QMJHL: Sea Dogs defeat Mooseheads

Saint John Sea Dogs

It took nearly the entire game, but the Saint John Sea Dogs finally held on to a lead.

Steven Anthony scored his fourth goal of the season with three minutes remaining in the third to give the Sea Dogs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as they beat the Halifax Mooseheads 4-2 in QMJHL action Friday night.

The Sea Dogs had already blown two one-goal leads with Jakub Voracek answering twice for the Mooseheads after Scott Howes opened the scoring and gave Saint John a 2-1 lead midway through the third.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Acadie-Bathurst 5 Lewiston 4; Baie-Comeau 7 Gatineau 5; and Rouyn-Noranda 7 Rimouski 3.

At Saint John, N.B., Ryan Sparling added an empty-net goal for the Sea Dogs, who are now five points behind the Mooseheads (20-6-0-4) in third place in the East Division. With the victory, Saint John (18-7-1-2) has won eight of its last 11 games.


 

Travis Fullerton made 31 saves for the Sea Dogs, while Mark Yetman turned away 21 shots for the Mooseheads.

Titan 5 Maineiacs 4

At Bathurst, N.B., Tomy Joly scored a pair and added an assist as the Titan edged the Maineiacs.

Tomas Svoboda, Mathieu Perreault and Cameron Critchlow also counted for the Titan (15-10-1-1).

Matt Bourdeau, Chris Tutalo, Billy Lacasse and Jakub Bundil replied for the Maineiacs (18-11-1-1).

Antoine Tardif allowed four goals on 21 shots before being replaced by Nicolas Champion who stopped all 14 shots he faced. Peter Delmas turned away 29 shots for the Maineiacs.

Drakkar 7 Olympiques 5

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Francois Bouchard, Benjamin Breault and Alexandre Boivin all scored a pair for the Drakkar as they beat the Olympiques.

Mathieu Tousignant scored the other goal for the Drakkar (19-8-0-3), who are now a point behind the Olympiques for second in the Telus Division.

Vincent Lavigueur got a pair for the Olympiques (19-10-2-2), while Pierre-Olivier Payment, Paul Byron and Jean-Philip Chabot also counted.

Marco Cousineau made 28 saves for the Drakkar. Maxime Clermont allowed three goals on eight shots for the Olympiques before being replaced by Ryan Mior midway through the first period.

Huskies 7 Oceanic 3

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Yannick Riendeau scored a pair and added an assist as the Huskies dispatched the Oceanic.

Jean-Sebastien Berube also counted twice for the Huskies (21-8-2-1), while Maxime Macenauer, Tyler Hawes and Jeff Desjardins added singles.

Olivier Fortier, David Skokan and Jordan Caron replied for the Oceanic (12-18-1-0).

Jhase Sniderman made 16 saves for the Huskies, while Tommy Perreault turned away 24 shots for the Oceanic.
