There are not many employees who covet an office near the boss, but Rafael Benitez is one of them. The day-to-day contact he enjoyed with Foster Gillett, the son of Liverpool’s co-owner, George Gillett, who was installed as his representative in Liverpool in August, gave him the ear of the management.

Red Bull Park – The way US soccer stadiums should be
Yesterday the Red Bulls of New York released drawings of their new stadium design and all I can say is marvelous. A stadium for the team from NY has been one of the best jokes in MLS history, however if this concept comes into reality, all those will be forgotten. Simply put, this is exactly the type of stadium the league and the sport needs to go to the next level.

The strange thing about most MLS soccer specific stadiums is how much they are not designed specifically for soccer. Yes, the pitch is the proper size and the seats are aligned more for the game, but the presence of a stage tells you the real story. Teams will make some money on soccer games but the big dollars come in from other ventures. Perhaps calling them soccer owned stadiums would be a bit more exact.

Sooners fall to 13th-seeded Florida, 3-0.

Nov. 30, 2007

Final Stats

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 23 Oklahoma volleyball team went down with a fight, but ended its season in Gainesville, Fla., Friday night as the Sooners fell to the 13th-seeded Florida Gators, 3-0 (30-24, 30-24, 36-34) in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma ends its season with a 22-10 overall record and its second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. It marked only the second time in school history that an Oklahoma volleyball team recorded back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. The only other time was the 1987 and 1988 season. The Sooners also finished fourth in the Big 12 Conference after being picked to finish ninth in the preseason.

Michael Vick’s plea bargain — like those of his two co-defendants who were sentenced Friday — states that the government will recommend to the judge that he be given a sentence “at the low end of the applicable guideline range.” The key revelation in court Friday was that, despite the government’s recommendation of the low end of the range for Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips, Judge Henry Hudson stated that the high end of the range was appropriate because of the “cruel” nature of their dogfighting activities.
