VICTORIA’S batsmen defied a Test-strength NSW attack to cruise to a commanding six-wicket win in the day-night cricket match at the MCG and condemn the Blues to bottom spot on the one-day table.
The Bushrangers were bogged down during the first half of their innings in pursuit of NSW’s 7-259 against an attack comprising Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark and Nathan Hauritz.

Hello! Liverpool. Welcome to America. Where you are only as good as your last title and the bottom line is – show me the money. Rafa, what were you expecting with Tom Hicks? The man whose name is practically synonymous with leveraged buyouts. A grace period?
Rafa has been mortally wounded and it is not because he has been rebuffed in his attempts at getting meaningful winter transfers, it is because the owners, especially Tom Hicks in their response, have questioned in a pointed manner whether he is the right person to lead them to a Premiership given the players he has, which of course makes the question of future transfers moot. They are questioning Rafa’s competence, and there lies the sine qua non of the imbroglio.

Center Marreese Speights led Florida with 15 points and six rebounds in a 71-48 win over Stetson on Tuesday night.
Gators coach Billy Donovan pulled four starters less than four minutes into the game after a sluggish start. Florida (6-1) trailed 12-3 before a 14-0 Gator run sparked by forward Adam Allen’s 3-pointer.
Stetson (2-5) missed 15 of its next 18 shots and trailed 35-21 at halftime.

QUEBEC – Four-time world curling champion Randy Ferby, defending champion Kevin Martin, reigning world champ Glenn Howard and Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue headline the $100,000 BDO Classic Canadian Open cashspiel opening Wednesday.
The first leg of the men’s Grand Slam of Curling, which is four cashspiels worth a total of $550,000 in prize money, will be staged at the new Pavillon de la Jeunesse in Quebec City and concludes with Sunday’s final.

WASHINGTON Redskins safety Sean Taylor has died after being shot at his home in Miami, the Washington Post and CNN have reported.
The 24-year-old National Football League defender died in a Miami hospital where he underwent nearly six hours of emergency surgery to repair a severed femoral artery.
”He did not make it through the night,” Taylor’s attorney and long-time friend, Richard Sharpstein, told the Post, calling the death “a ridiculous unnecessary tragedy.”
