Vikings’ Peterson expected to play Sunday

Adrian Peterson

Minneapolis, MN – Minnesota rookie running back Adrian Peterson will likely return to the lineup on Sunday against Detroit, according to the Star Tribune.

Peterson tore the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee against the Green Bay Packers on November 11. He missed the last two victories over Oakland and the Giants.

According to the report, the team believed Peterson was healthy enough to go against the Giants, but decided to give him an extra week to recover.

Peterson will suit up on Sunday, "providing he’s able to make it through a week of practice," Vikings coach Brad Childress was quoted as saying in the report. "He’s just got to continue to progress and make it through a full week of practice and our game plan."

In eight games this season, Peterson has run for 1,081 yards with eight touchdowns and set an NFL record with 296 yards rushing against the San Diego Chargers on November 5.
