Owens wins NFC Player of the Week honours

Terrell Owens

New York, NY (Sports Network) – Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens, Arizona cornerback Antrel Rolle and Green Bay punt returner Tramon Williams earned player of the week honors for Week 11.

Owens tied a Dallas franchise record with four touchdown receptions on an eight-catch, 173-yard performance as the Cowboys edged the Washington Redskins last Sunday. He scored once in the second quarter, once in the third and twice in the fourth, climbing within four TD receptions of Cris Carter (130) for second-most in NFL history.

This is Owens’ second award, following a Week 16 honor in 2000. The 12th-year pro is the first Cowboys’ wide receiver to be named offensive player of the week since Alvin Harper in Week 9 of 1994.

Defensive honors went to Rolle, who posted a career-high three interceptions and tied an NFL record by returning two for touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 35-27 win over the Bengals in Cincinnati. The picks went for a combined 127 return yards, topping the previous high by Larry Wilson in 1965. The third-year player became the first Cardinal since Adrian Wilson in October 2002 to record three interceptions in one game.

Williams’ 94-yard punt return highlighted Green Bay’s 31-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers and garnered him special teams honors. The play, as a result of Williams’ alertness on a Panthers’ fake field goal that turned into a pooch punt, was the second-longest punt return in Packers history, one yard shy of Steve Odom’s mark set in 1974.

Both Rolle and Williams were first-time player of the week selections.
