Steven Stamkos has been on fire in his past five games.
The red-hot centre scored a goal and an assist Sunday against the Ottawa 67s to lead the Sarnia Sting to a 3-1 victory, and now has seven goals and five assists in his past five OHL games.
"They basically controlled the puck in their end and Stamkos controlled the puck in our end," 67′s coach and general manager Brian Kilrea said. "Like all good players – John Tavares, Stamkos – the puck follows them around.”
Matt Martin added a goal and an assist in the victory and Finnish rookie goaltender Tomi Karhunen came within 29 seconds of producing his second straight shutout, allowing a late goal to Ottawa’s Mike Latta for the 67′s lone marker.
Karhunen, who had shut out the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday, finished with 30 saves against a 67′s team that had scored 10 goals in their last outing, a 10-3 victory over the Guelph Storm also on Friday. He had a shutout streak of 141 minutes 42 seconds going before Latta’s goal.
