SHANGHAI, China — Phil Mickelson is getting the hang of this travel thing very quickly.

A 35-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole and a tap-in birdie on No. 18 gave Mickelson a 4-under 68 and a two-stroke lead over Ross Fisher going into Sunday’s final round of the HSBC Champions tournament.

The Wizard of Odds highlights a take that you don’t see too often in the mainstream media – a former Notre Dame player blistering Irish head coach Charlie Weis.

Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and former Irish standout Bob Kuechenberg – who played both OL and DL at UND in the 1960′s before his 15 year career in the NFL – goes on the record with what he contends is a broadly-held opinion of Weis.

“I want to start the movement — Charlie’s last name is four letters, and so is ogre, because that’s what he is,” Kuechenberg said. “Look it up, and you’ll find some other adjectives that fit him to a tee. Continue reading »

Sharapova dominates Chakvetadze to reach Sony Ericsson Championships final
World No.6 Maria Sharapova defeated Russian compatriot Anna Chakvetadze 6-2 6-2 on Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Championships in Madrid.

World No.7 Chakvetadze started the match well, winning her first service game and even having a break point on Sharapova’s serve. However, Sharapova won the game with a fantastic second serve to even the score to 1-1. Since then, the 20-year-old Sharapova broke her opponent twice and took a 4-1 lead. This vividly demotivated Chakvetadze, and it became clear that the first set was over for her.

Maytag dishwashers and other appliances are now owned by Whirlpool. These two well-known name brands are continuing a history of quality dishwashers. When Whirlpool began in 1911, its first home appliance was a motor driven wringer washing machine. At that time the company was called Upton Machine Company. In the 1950′s, the name changed to Whirlpool and they were making dryers, washers, refrigerators, stoves, and air conditioners. By the 1980′s the expansion led to buying KitchenAid and Roper brands. Their most recent acquisition is the Maytag brand.

Maytag continues to have innovative new ideas in their dishwasher lines. Maytag has a new Jet Clean III dishwasher that boasts a three-rack loading system with an extra tall tub for larger loads and flexibly loading configurations. The cleaning performance is top-notch with four spray arms that deliver high-pressure water above and below each of the three racks. This means it has more spray jets than any other dishwasher. The Maytag Jet Clean III is EnergyStar qualified to keep costs of operation down. It also features Maytag’s Seal of Silence to assure quiet operation. The Maytag Jet Clean III comes in two models. One has 13 touch pads and a stainless steel tub for $879. The other has 12 touch pads and a plastic tub for $669.

What if you cannot spare cabinet space to install a built-in dishwasher? That is not a problem with portable or convertible dishwashers. These dishwashers are freestanding with casters that allow you to store the dishwasher in one place and roll it to the sink when you need to use it. Most have a butcher-block laminate top so that you increase your workspace in the kitchen. Several companies offer portable dishwasher models if you need this flexibility.

GE has four convertible models of dishwashers called Nautilus. These can remain portable or they can be converted to an under-the-cabinet dishwasher. They have TouchTap controls and a package to reduce noise. If left as portable, the wood grain laminate top makes an attractive countertop addition to the kitchen for added workspace. All four Nautilus convertible dishwashers are in the $500 range.

England 10-5 Saudi Arabia
World Deaf Futsal Championship
Sofia, Bulgaria
Friday 9 November 2007

England’s Deaf Futsal team kicked off their World Championship with a fine 10-5 victory against the newcomers, Saudi Arabia in Sofia on Friday.
Peter Sturgess’s men arrived in Sofia with high optimism ahead of the competition, and with 12 fully fit players in the squad, nothing could have put the national team in any doubt and they made the ideal start to the tournament.
England’s winning start
There is a strong group stage ahead for the Three Lions, as England are grouped together with Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Slovakia and strong rivals the Netherlands, whilst Guinea had failed to register at the championship due to funding and Visa difficulties, which allows England an extra day training on Saturday.
In the early stages of the game, England were put on the back foot, as the Saudis were keen to put their strategy to the test but with Taljinder Singh, playing in his second international championship, at the heart of the defence and reading the game quickly to minimise their impact, England had a steady foundation to build on.
They were soon a goal up too, after an outstanding run from Daniel Hogan ended with a low shot flying into the left side of the goal.
The Saudis stepped up a gear though and got an equaliser through one-on-one with goalkeeper Sam Kitchin, who was helpless in preventing the goal. However, England had Kitchin to thank as he went on to make several vital saves to keep them level.
England soon found their feet though, with a dream debut championship goal from Everton’s Liam Coventry, who found the net after outstanding work from captain John Atkinson on the left hand side.
Atkinson found the third goal for England soon before the break, when a looped throw from Kitchin found the skipper and he coolly went past the goalkeeper and chipped the ball into an empty net.
England’s winning start
The second half saw some good control of the game from England, who took their game into the next level with an attacking style of Futsal to pile the pressure on the Saudis.
However, Saudi Arabia blasted two quick goals to take the scoreline to 3-3 and this prompted England into another purple patch, scoring six goals in 10 minutes with Hogan, Atkinson, Lampert, Dalziel and Dixon contributing to the score sheet.
The Saudis added two late goals to reduce the arrears before Atkinson interpreted a Saudi error and made it ten to complete the scoring.
Sturgess could not have asked for a better start from his team, with three points in the bag and a further three points guaranteed on Saturday, as England’s scheduled match against Guinea has been declared as a walkover.
England will instead have a training day, in preparation for the three important games ahead of them with Switzerland, Slovakia and the Netherlands to come in their qualifying group.
Switzerland – Sunday 11 November, 10:30am (8:30am GMT)
Slovakia – Monday 12 November 4:00pm (2:00pm GMT)
Netherlands – Tuesday 13 November 5:30pm (3:30pm GMT)

Nestor to reunite with Knowles at Masters Cup

Knowles and Nestor

SHANGHAI, China – Canadian Daniel Nestor is banking on memory as he reunites with former partner Mark Knowles at the Masters Cup starting on Sunday.

"It (playing) is something like the back of your hand," Nestor said Friday. "It’s not like we’ll forget how to play with each other after playing together for 10 or 11 years." Nestor and Knowles went their separate ways after a messy, drawn-out split over the summer, with Nestor saying it was time for a change and Knowles far from happy with the decision.
