The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles used an explosive third period to cushion their lead atop the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s East Division.

Jonathan Laberge and Dean Ouellet each scored two third-period goals as the Screaming Eagles beat the Victoriaville Tigres 5-2 Tuesday.

The game was tied 1-1 before the Eagles’ four-goal outburst in the third.

The win gives Cape Breton a QMJHL-best 31 points. Halifax is the closest team in the East with 27 points, though the Mooseheads have four games in hand.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Shawinigan 3 Drummondville 0, Val-d’Or 4 Gatineau 2 and Lewiston 2 Saint John 1 (SO).


 

At Sydney, N.S., Nick MacNeil had a goal and two assists for Cape Breton (15-4-1-0).

Jan Kolarik and Jonathan Bonneau replied for Victoriaville (9-9-0-0).

Olivier Roy made 31 saves for Cape Breton, while an overworked Jean-Christophe Blanchard stopped 45 shots for Victoriaville.

Cataractes 3 Voltigeurs 0

At Shawinigan, Que., Kevin Maletto made 25 saves and Philippe Paradis scored twice as the Cataractes beat Drummondville.

Nicholas Petersen also scored for Shawinigan (7-8-0-2).

Bradley Dyke made 28 saves for Drummondville (5-13-1-1).

Foreurs 4 Olympiques 2

At Val-d’Or, Que., Brad Marchand scored twice and added an assist as the Foreurs beat Gatineau.

Jonathan Hazen and Marc-Andre Cote also scored for Val-d’Or (10-7-1-1).

Matthew Pistilli scored twice for Gatineau (12-8-0-2).

Maineiacs 2 Sea Dogs 1

At Saint John, N.B., Marc Bourgeois scored the shootout winner as Lewiston beat the Sea Dogs.

Denis Reul scored in regulation for the Maineiacs (10-7-1-0).

Ryan Sparling replied for Saint John (10-4-0-2).
