It is now official! Gary Russell, Jr. of Capitol Heights is heading for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China!
In a bout that ended moments ago, Russell qualified for the Olympics by defeating fellow 2005 World Championships bronze medalist Ali Hallab of France, 22-14. The victory places Russell among the top eight in his class at this year’s world championships in Chicago and qualifies him for the Olympics.
Russell will face Sergey Vodopyanov of Russia in the quarterfinals tomorrow evening.
