Goalies Pier-Olivier Pelletier and Olivier Roy stole the show Sunday.
The netminders were excellent in a tight game as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles edged the Halifax Mooseheads 2-1 in a shootout that went 12 rounds.
But it was Roy who walked away with the win, making 33 saves for the Screaming Eagles victory, while Pelletier made 24 saves for the Mooseheads.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Chicoutimi 3 Shawinigan 2; Lewiston 4 Moncton 2; Rimouski 6 Rouyn-Noranda 1; and Victoriaville 6 Val-D’Or 2.
At Sydney, N.S., Mathieu Brodeur finally scored the deciding goal for the Screaming Eagles (14-4-1-0) after Halifax’s Guillaume Monast was stopped by Roy in the 12th shootout round.
Travis Randell opened the scoring in the first period for the Mooseheads (11-3-0-2).
Chris Culligan tied the game for the Screaming Eagles half way through the second period.
Chicoutimi 3 Shawinigan 2
At Chicoutimi, Que., Olivier Ouellet scored the game winning goal early in the third period as the Sagueneens held on for the victory over the Cataractes.
Francis Pare and Sebastien Rioux completed the scoring for the Sagueneens (8-9-0-0).
Nicholas Petersen and Pierre-Alexandre Vandall found the net for the Cataractes (6-8-0-2).
Bobby Nadeau made 30 saves for Chicouimi, while Kevin Maletto turned away 19 shots for the Cataractes.
Lewiston 4 Moncton 2
At Lewiston, Maine, Stefano Giliati scored the game winner early in the third period as the Maineiacs edged the Wildcats.
Marc-Andre Daneau, Alexander Beaton and Danick Paquette also scored for the Maineiacs (9-7-1-0).
Adam Bezak and Phil Mangan found the net for the Wildcats (7-10-1-1).
Delmas, Peter made 24 saves for the Lewiston, while Nicola Riopel made 30 saves for the Moncton.
Rimouski 6 Rouyn-Noranda 1
At Rimouski, Que., Michael Frolik and Louis-Etienne Leblanc both scored twice as the Oceanic hammered the Huskies.
Pierre-Alexandre Joncas and David Skokan completed the scoring for the Oceanic (7-13-1-0).
Michael Dubuc scored the only goal for the Huskies (10-4-2-1).
Michael Dupont made 23 saves for Rimouski, while Guillaume Blouin turned away 17 shots for Rouyn-Noranda.
Victoriaville 6 Val-D’Or 2
At Victoriaville, Que., a four-goal third-period outburst by the Tigres led by Jan Kolarik’s pair, pushed them past the Foreurs.
Alexandre Labonte and Keven Veilleux scored in the first period to give the Tigres (9-8-0-0) the lead.
Brad Marchand and Marc-Andre Cote tied it up in the second for the Foreurs (9-7-1-1), before Alexandre Monahan and Philip-Michael Devos scored in the third to go along with Kolarik’s goals.
Mathieu Cote made 33 saves for Val-D’Or, while Kevin Poulin made 29 saves for Victoriaville.
