Matthew Pistilli couldn’t do much more.
The Gatineau Olympiques forward scored a third period hat trick to help his team overcome a 5-1 deficit entering the final stanza and force overtime. But his team couldn’t complete the comeback and Mathieu Tousignant scored the shootout winner to go along with a second period marker in Baie-Comeau’s 6-5 victory.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Rouyn-Noranda 3 Rimouski 2; Halifax 6 P.E.I. 5; Saint John 6 St. John’s 5 (SO); and Val-d’Or 4 Drummondville 3 (OT).
At Gatineau, Que., Benjamin Breault, Roman Malinik, Alexandre Boivin and Francois Bouchard also scored for the Drakkar (12-4-0-2).
Gerrit Fauser and Claude Giroux were the other scorers for the Olympiques (12-7-0-2).
Marco Cousineau made 21 saves for the Drakkar, while Ryan Mior turned away 32 shots for the Olympiques.
Rouyn-Noranda 3 Rimouski 2
At Rimouski, Que., Guillaume Tougas scored the winner with 3:03 left as the Huskies beat the Oceanic.
Ivan Vishnevskiy and Maxime Macenauer also scored for the Huskies (10-4-2-1).
Michael Frolik and Olivier Fortier replied for the Oceanic (6-13-1-0).
Milan Pucholt turned away 22 shots for the Huskies, while Michael Dupont made 34 saves for the Oceanic.
Halifax 6 P.E.I. 5
At Halifax, Logan MacMillan scored a hat trick as the Mooseheads edged the Rocket.
Andrew White, Peter-James Corsi and Bryce Swan also scored for the Mooseheads (11-3-0-1), as they rallied from a 4-0 Rocket lead.
Lucas McKinley, Geoff Walker, Chris Doyle, Matthew Lachaine and Pierre-Luc Lessard scored for the Rocket (7-10-1-0).
Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 12 saves before being replaced by Mark Yetman for the Mooseheads. Antoine Lafleur turned away 39 shots for the Rocket.
Saint John 6 St. John’s 5 (SO)
At Saint John, N.B., Jake Allen scored the shootout winner as the Sea Dogs beat the Fog Devils.
Alexandre Leduc scored twice for the Sea Dogs (10-4-0-1), while Scott Howes, Christopher DiDomenico and Alex Grant counted singles.
Taylor MacDougall got a pair for the Fog Devils (8-8-1-2), while Ryan Graham, Olivier Guilbault and Pier-Antoine Dion also scored.
Jake Allen made 41 saves for St. John’s, while Robert Mayer made 24 saves for Saint John before being replaced by Travis Fullerton.
Val-d’Or 4 Drummondville 3 (OT)
At Drummondville, Que., Martin Thibeault scored the overtime winner as the Foreurs edged the Voltigeurs.
Pascal Boutin, Jonathan Paquet and Remy Lamoureux also scored for the Foreurs (8-6-1-1).
Garrett Peters, Benoit Levesque and Steven Cacciotti scored for the Voltigeurs (5-12-1-1).
Raffaele D’Orso made 38 saves for the Foreurs, while Maxim Gougeon turned away 35 shots for the Voltigeurs.
