Souness: No longer considered
Graeme Souness has pulled out of the running to become the next Bolton Wanderers manager.
Following the departure of his former Liverpool team-mate Sammy Lee last week, Souness was mooted as a contender to take over at The Reebok Stadium.
However, Souness has told Sky Sports News that he is no longer a candidate to assume control of the Premier League’s bottom club.
The former Liverpool and Blackburn boss has contacted Bolton chairman Phil Gartside to say he ‘no longer wishes to be considered’ for the job.
Committed
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad have confirmed their intention to hang on to Chris Coleman, who has also been linked with the vacancy.
Sociedad have already rejected an approach from The Trotters, with the Spanish side expecting Coleman to fulfil his contract.
Sporting director Salva Iriarte told the club’s official website: “”The situation is very clear. We have no intention of letting him go as he is our coach and we hope he will stay for the three years of his contract.
“We received a fax from Bolton asking for permission to speak with Chris, which is a formality that has to be done.
“I met with him and told him about it so that he was aware, but he said to me that he was calm and that he was happy at Real.
“What worries me in cases like this is whether he is happy and I believe he is and am encouraged by that. I have no doubt that he will stay. The most important thing is that he feels comfortable and part of this project and on that score I have no fears.”
Happy here
Finally, Iriarte hit out at reports that Coleman has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave to return to England and join a Premier League club.
“There is not one,” he said. “The coach has said that one day he may return, but he has also stated that he is happy here now.
“I am not surprised by Bolton’s interest because in England they change coaches quite often and some even take charge of two different teams in the same season.”
