VANCOUVER – Organizers of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver are raking in the sponsorship money and have exceeded their 2007 target by at least $15 million.
The organizing committee issued a financial report Friday saying it raised $80 million in sponsorships for the fiscal year ending July 31.

Canadian Soccer
The Canadian Soccer Association will determine this weekend who will lead the organization through what is expected to be a turbulent few months.
The CSA will elect its acting president from one of its two vice-presidents, either Dominic Maestracci or Victor Montagliani, at its semi-annual general meeting Saturday in Ottawa.
The acting president replaces Colin Linford, who resigned in protest Aug. 27, just 15 months into his four-year term.

Pedrosa took his third pole position of the season
Spain’s Dani Pedrosa will start from pole position at the Malaysian MotoGP after going fastest in qualifying.
Pedrosa went round the Sepang circuit in 2:01.877, with Australian Casey Stoner – who clinched the world title last month – second in 2:01.918.

FLEMINGTON trainer Danny O’Brien grabbed the quinella in a sensational Caulfield Cup when Master O’Reilly wore down stablemate Douro Valley to record a gritty victory.
But the $2.5 million race became an anti-climax after high drama at the barriers before the field jumped away.
Maldivian, the $2.40 favourite, went to the barriers the shortest-priced horse to contest a Caulfield Cup since Tobin Bronze, $1.70 favourite, was beaten into sixth behind Galilee in 1966.

Even though it has been around for many years, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was made famous in the United States by Royce Gracie in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Many people were not that familiar with the style until Gracie entered the UFC and continued to dominate fighters of all styles and weight classes one after the other. Once people began to see how quickly Gracie could defeat an opponent, they quickly became interested in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
As many now know, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an art that is utilized with ground grappling, with very little stand up skills involved. A majority of the techniques used with the martial art are executed on the ground. The techniques involve very little strength from the stylist, as most of them are all about the technique behind the move. With Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylists that weight 100 lbs or less can quickly put a submission lock on someone who is 2 – 3 times their weight and size.

NEW YORK — Orlando Hernandez had surgery on his right foot Friday, and the New York Mets’ pitcher is expected to be ready for spring training.
El Duque had a bunion removed from his second toe. An ailing foot interrupted his season, and the Mets collapsed down the stretch without Hernandez in the rotation.
New York dropped 12 of its final 17 games and blew a seven-game cushion in the NL East, missing the playoffs after one of the biggest meltdowns in baseball history.

Former world heavyweight champion Hasim “The Rock” Rahman made short work of Cerrone Fox by scoring a first round TKO last night in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
According to Fightnews.com, Rahman wobbled Fox with his first right hand and then proceeded to land an extensive series of them until Fox went down in a heap in his own corner.
Referee Dale Grable didn’t bother counting and waved it off at 2:27.
