Gordon laughs off taunts

Gordon: Remains calm

Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has laughed off the taunts of the Italians as he gears up for Wednesday’s crucial Euro 2008 qualifier with Georgia.

Alex McLeish’s side need four points from their last two games to secure a place at next summer’s finals in Austria & Switzerland.

Scotland’s final qualification game pits them against world champions Italy, with Roberto Donadoni’s side in serious danger of missing out altogether.

However, that has not stopped Italy defender Fabio Grosso from casting doubts over whether Scotland have the mental aptitude to complete the job and see off European giants Italy and France in the process.

But Gordon is refusing to be drawn into a spat ahead of the Hampden Park clash, of the opinion that his side will do their talking on the pitch.

Par for the course

“That kind of stuff is par for the course – it’s always going to happen,” noted Gordon.

“It makes no difference who said what. Of course there is always going to be pressure at this stage of the campaign but it is the kind you want to be involved in.

“We are relishing it and we are happy to see other teams resorting to those kind of tactics.

“I know that we have the character for these very difficult games and that we have no reason to fear the last two qualifiers.”
