The New England Patriots improved their record to 6-0 by crushing the previously unbeaten Dallas Cowboys 48-27.
Tom Brady tossed five touchdowns to become the first quarterback to throw at least three in each of the first six games of a season.
Green Bay’s Brett Favre was another signal caller in record-breaking form – albeit of an unwanted kind – as two interceptions took him past George Blanda’s all-time NFL record.
St Louis and Miami both lost for the sixth straight week, while San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson rediscovered his best form with a four-touchdown haul.
New England Patriots 48-27 Dallas Cowboys
Tom Brady renewed his reputation as a man for the big occasion as the New England Patriots stormed to a 48-27 victory over the previously unbeaten Dallas Cowboys.
Brady destroyed the Cowboys through the air with five touchdowns, including two to Wes Welker in the first half, and finished with a total of 388 passing yards.
He became the first quarterback to throw at least three touchdown passes in each of the first six games of the season.
Randy Moss, Kyle Brady, Donte’ Stallworth and Kyle Eckel also got into the end zone for the Patriots, who now boast a 6-0 record.
New Orleans Saints 28-17 Seattle Seahawks
The New Orleans Saints claimed their first victory of the season with a 28-17 success over the Seattle Seahawks.
Drew Brees finally produced something approaching his best form with 246 passing yards, two touchdowns, and more importantly, no interceptions.
The Saints’ defense also produced a solid showing and limited Seattle running back Shaun Alexander to just 35 yards on 14 carries.
St Louis Rams 3-22 Baltimore Ravens
The St Louis Rams are still searching for their first win of the season after going down 22-3 at Baltimore.
Gus Frerotte, filling in as Rams quarterback for the injured Marc Bulger, was picked off five times and gave up a fumble during a defense-dominated match.
Baltimore’s Matt Stover kicked five field goals from five attempts to ensure his side improved their record to 4-2.
Miami Dolphins 31-41 Cleveland Browns
Cam Cameron’s wait for his first victory as an NFL head coach continues as his Miami Dolphins lost their sixth game in row, 41-31 at the Cleveland Browns.
Derek Anderson continued to impress under centre for the Browns, tossing three touchdown passes and no interceptions.
In contrast, his opposite number Cleo Lemon – covering for the convalescing Trent Green – was picked off twice to ensure a 101-yard rushing effort from Ronnie Brown went unrewarded.
Carolina Panthers 25-10 Arizona Cardinals
Vinny Testaverde, 43, led the Carolina Panthers to a 25-10 triumph at the Arizona Cardinals, and in the process became the oldest quarterback to win an NFL game.
Testaverde was signed by the injury-ravaged Panthers last week and produced an assured display to allow his side to come away from Phoenix with the result.
The 20-year NFL veteran threw for 206 yards and found Steve Smith for a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Worse news for the Cardinals concerned their own veteran quarterback Kurt Warner, who left the game in the first quarter due to a strained left elbow and did not return. Tim Rattay replaced the 36-year-old with limited success.
Philadelphia Eagles 16-9 New York Jets
Donovan McNabb connected with Kevin Curtis on a 75-yard touchdown pass during the Philadelphia Eagles’ 16-9 win at the New York Jets.
That was the game’s only touchdown as the Eagles improved their record to 2-3.
Minnesota Vikings 34-31 Chicago Bears
Ryan Longwell kicked a 55-yard field goal as time expired to give the Minnesota Vikings a 34-31 victory over NFC North rivals the Chicago Bears.
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson compiled touchdown runs of 73, 67 and 35 yards during a 224-yard effort.
Bears quarterback Brian Griese did little to secure his job, mixing three touchdowns with two interceptions as last season’s NFC champions slumped to a 2-4 record.
Washington Redskins 14-17 Green Bay Packers
Brett Favre enjoyed another record-breaking day in leading the Green Bay Packers to a 17-14 success over the Washington Redskins.
It was, however, an unwanted piece of history for Favre, who was picked off twice to take his career tally to 279 and overtake George Blanda as the most intercepted quarterback in NFL history.
But Green Bay cornerback Charles Woodson got his quarterback out of trouble by recovering a Santana Moss fumble and returning it 57 yards for the game’s decisive touchdown in the third quarter.
Houston Texans 17-37 Jacksonville Jaguars
Maurice Jones-Drew sparked the Jacksonville Jaguars to their fourth consecutive victory against AFC South rivals the Houston Texans.
Running back Jones-Drew had 184 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns as the Jaguars improved their record to 4-1.
Tennessee Titans 10-13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Matt Bryant landed a 43-yard field goal with 16 seconds left to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a 13-10 success over the Tennessee Titans.
The Buccaneers benefitted from another mistake-free display from veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia, who has yet to throw an interception this season.
Oakland Raiders 14-28 San Diego Chargers
LaDainian Tomlinson scored four touchdowns during the San Diego Chargers’ 28-14 victory over the Oakland Raiders.
Last season’s NFL MVP Tomlinson rushed for 198 yards on 24 carries and went into the end zone twice in each half.
Cincinnati Bengals 20-27 Kansas City Chiefs
Tony Gonzalez caught two touchdown passes and Larry Johnson rushed for 119 yards to help the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals 27-20 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Bengals, for whom quarterback Carson Palmer notched 320 yards and two touchdowns in a losing cause, have now slumped to 1-4 on the season.
