I’m comfortable with the pace of my car and my abilities, and I feel I can do the job.

Quotes of the week

Lewis Hamilton is unwavering in his belief that he will win the Formula One World Championship on Sunday.

The 22-year-old rookie failed to wrap up the world title at China on 7th October, after sliding into the gravel at Shanghai on severely-worn tyres.

But he still leads the World Championship race by four points from McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso and seven points from Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

With destiny still in his own hands heading into the F1 finale at Interlagos, Hamilton is taking every precaution to ensure he is physically and mentally prepared.

Preparation

“I’m not dwelling on what I could have done,” insisted Hamilton. “I feel good. I’ve done some intense training this week with my trainer, in particular exercising the other side of my neck as it is an anti-clockwise circuit.

“I’ve also looked at onboard footage of the race, visiting the McLaren Technology Centre to see my engineer.

“We’ve analysed what happened at the last race and looked at where I was quickest and where there is room for improvement.

“We’ve made sure we’re going to Brazil with clear decisions on set-up and here we aim to go with it.

“I’ve also been very low key – no events, no partying. I’ve even side-tracked some of my friends to make sure I am in the right frame of mind.”

Unfazed

The Sao Paulo circuit was the home of Hamilton’s hero F1 legend Aryton Senna and despite never having raced on the circuit before, the young Briton remains unfazed.

“You can see throughout the year I’ve been strong on new circuits, so I’ve no worries about it being a circuit I haven’t driven on before,” he added.

“I have a great team and I know what it feels like to lose it, so I will do everything in my power and dedication to win.

“I’m comfortable with the pace of my car and my abilities, and I feel I can do the job.”
