Pieman crumbles to Gray

Gray: Giant killer

Adrian Gray added another scalp to his collection as he sent Andy Smith tumbling out of the SkyBet World Grand Prix in Dublin.

The 26-year-old from Sussex had already caused a massive shock by toppling 13-time world champion Phil Taylor in the first round.

And Gray didn’t let that win go to his head as he beat ‘The Pieman’ Smith 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

Gray had lost the opening set 3-0, before rattling off the next three to leave himself in a state of shock.

He told Sky Sports 1: “The one thing I do remember is losing that first set 3-0 and I wasn’t very happy with that.

“However I went out the back and got myself together.

Shaking

“When I beat Phil I was shaking so much in the hands I couldn’t drink my water. However now I couldn’t even walk.”

Mark Dudbridge produced one of the great darting comebacks as he knocked out Andy Jenkins.

A rip-roaring encounter had seen the match go into a deciding leg, however Dudbridge seemed to be on his way home as he failed to find the opening double with his first nine darts.

But the 34-year-old from Bristol, known as Flash, came storming back and clinched his place in the quarter-finals with a 101 checkout.

Jenkins, who had struggled with his double finishes all night, was made to pay for failing to take his chance when he had just 56 left.

Last year’s Grand Prix runner-up Terry Jenkins battled his way to a 3-2 victory over Chris Mason.

Mason went toe-to-toe with Jenkins, only to miss out in the deciding set.

Canada’s John Part is yet to drop a set in the competition after his 3-0 demolition of Wayne Mardle.

The match was expected to go all the way, but the 41-year-old Part was just too strong on the night for the Romford thrower.
