Stewart considers legal action against Mosley

Jackie Stewart is considering legal action against FIA president Max Mosley for his remarks against the former F1 world champion.

While speaking to a group of British journalists, Mosley referred to Stewart as a "certified half wit" for his criticism of the World Motor Sport Council penalty against McLaren in the spygate affair.

On hand for last weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, Stewart confirmed that legal action against Mosley was "still very open".

"I think it was very wrong for Max to do what he did, because it’s unbecoming for the president of the body that governs this sport to be speaking in such a fashion," he tells autosport.com.

"I think it was an act of misjudgement by him, but he must have been very upset – for no apparent reason, because any criticisms that I have made are no different from many other people aired with respect to the severity of the penalty of the McLaren thing, and the manner in which the case came together.

"It is libellous, and I think that’s really all I can say."

Mosley says he stands by his comments and that Stewart’s comments were unjustified because he not have understand all the facts in the case.

"I have no apology to make for having said as much publicly and I am more than happy to repeat this view about him now and in the future," he tells autosport.com.

While he admits that some of his comments about Stewart might have been taken the wrong way by some people who consider him a "national treasure", Mosley added that his job as FIA president is not to make friends with everyone around him.
