NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Consider the Sooners revived. Only a week after a second-half breakdown seemed to rob Oklahoma of its lofty goals for the season, the Sooners (5-1, 1-1 Big 12) are one giant step closer to erasing the bad memories of that 27-24 loss to Colorado out of their minds.
"It’s still there, but we know that we’ve got a lot that we’ve got to do to erase that," tight end Jermaine Gresham said after catching two touchdown passes in the Sooners’ 28-21 win over No. 23 Texas on Saturday.

Behind the Fijians, the men who have lit up the Rugby World Cup, lies a priceless quality that endears them to all who share their company. It is the ability to smile, to have fun. At 8am, as the sun climbed above the old fort overlooking Marseille’s ancient harbour, we asked lock Kele Leawere what he thought of the team’s luxury hotel in the historic French port. His great eyes lit up, almost bulging out of their sockets.

Normally, the Edmonton Oilers hate to be following their top NHL rival, the Calgary Flames. But clearly, the success story of the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen, who belong to the Flames, influenced Edmonton ownership to go out and acquire its own major junior expansion franchise. Reintroducing the name of the Edmonton Oil Kings harkens back to the glory days of the 1960’s and 1970’s, when a previous incarnation earned two Memorial Cups (1963, 1966) and appeared in the finals on numerous other occasions. For its inaugural 2007-08 campaign, Edmonton is competing in the Central Division of the WHL’s Eastern Conference, using a veteran-laden roster, since league rules permit expansion clubs to ice up to five 20-year-olds. However, there are also promising younger talents at forward, like Czech import Tomas Vincour and Regina’s Brent Raedeke. Through October 7, the new-look Oil Kings posted a competitive 3-2-0-1 record. HockeyAdventure.com caught up with four key members of the Oil Kings organization recently.

NEW YORK (AP) — Win or else! That was George Steinbrenner’s message to Joe Torre before the New York Yankees played the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night, and that’s what they did.
With the Yankees trailing 2-0 in the best-of-five, first-round playoff series, Steinbrenner reverted to the blustering boss of old and said Torre likely wouldn’t return as manager unless New York reaches the AL championship series for the first time in three years.
“His job is on the line,” the owner was quoted in Sunday’s editions of The Record of New Jersey. “I think we’re paying him a lot of money. He’s the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don’t think we’d take him back if we don’t win this series.”
