THE V8 Supercar championship-leading Holden of Garth Tander and Rick Kelly topped the charts in the final Bathurst 1000 practice session today, ahead of qualifying this afternoon.

Tander powered the Toll HSV Dealer No.1 Commodore around Mount Panorama in 2 minutes 07 seconds, 0.3sec quicker than Ford Performance Racing drivers Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards.

Holden Racing Team’s Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly were third fastest, 0.47sec slower than Tander.
The Ford of Steven Johnson and Will Davison, who were quickest in the opening practice session yesterday, was fourth fastest 0.6sec off the pace.

Race favourites Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup were again off the pace in clocking the eighth-fastest time, 1.5sec adrift.

The Ford of Jason Bright suffered considerable front end damage when he hammered a tyre wall after clocking the ninth-best time of the session.

This afternoon’s qualifying session, which gets underway at 2.05pm AEST, will whittle the field down from 31 to 10.

Then tomorrow afternoon, from 3.40pm AEST, the top 10 positions will be determined by the top 10 shootout.
