THE stand-off at the Kangaroos between the board and the coach is at flashpoint.

Eleven days after the Roos completed their 2007 season, the club and coach Dean Laidley remain at odds over a new contract.

The situation has deteriorated in recent weeks to the point where those reasonably assumed to be in the know are fearful of an irreconcilable split.

PERTH Wildcats continued their dominance over South Dragons, crushing the NBL second year franchise 97-81 at Melbourne’s Vodafone Arena.

It did not bode well for Frankie Santos (15-4-3, 7 KO’s) that he climbed through the ropes to face the highly talented and undefeated junior welterweight Lamont Peterson (22-0, 10 KO’s) after going 1-3-1 in his last four fights. Of course, the fact that Santos (139 ½) was also soft around the middle and had only one bout in the last 27 months did not increase his prospects for longevity against the faster moving and harder hitting Peterson (140).

Internazionale moved to the top of Serie A after a 4-1 win over Roma, who played with 10 men for over an hour at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

Roma, Manchester United’s Champions League opponents tomorrow, who started the day level on points with Inter, were always going to struggle after Ludovic Giuly was shown a red card for handball 28 minutes in. Giuly palmed away Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goal-bound strike and, to compound his misery, the Sweden striker scored the penalty.
